In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Quality division has a First Line Manager (FLM) Quality Non-Destructive Evaluation opportunity. The Quality division is accountable for working safely, ensuring standards and requirements are met in order to support safe operations and project excellence.

On shift, the FLM Quality Non-Destructive Evaluation is instrumental in ensuring a world-class service for managing the supervision of Quality Technicians and coordinating execution of assigned on-line, outage and project work associated with the operation, maintenance, and projects on the nuclear generating units. The role of this position is to lead the field Non-Destructive Evaluation team that executes the in-service inspection requirements in support of the Periodic Inspection Program.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:* Provide support to the Section Manager, Quality in managing the functional area in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, programs, procedures and agreements
Maintain up to date documentation, which lays down procedures for ensuring that correct and safe practices are followed, and plant reliability and availability are maintained at a high standard
Ensure that all personnel in the functional area are appropriately trained for the tasks delegated to them and have appropriate qualifications and authorization
Provide day to day coordination
Ensure value for money and achievement of the business plan
Monitor performance and initiate any actions necessary to correct any adverse trends
Hold qualifications for the work being supervised or rely on a qualified peer to conduct the technical briefing for the work
Quality Inspection and Verification tasks will include various structural and mechanical components (including pressure boundary) designated using optical/Visual or NDE inspection methods
Prepare or assist in the preparation and presentation of detailed inspection reports, including the use of visual aids when required to transfer information easily to various work groups, departments or outside parties
Verify the completion of weekly/monthly/quarterly performance calibrations and operational checks
Plan and participate in training programs for Technicians and peer FLM’s. Show others how to perform tasks or duties in the context of job turnover or experience sharing. Within specialized fields, instruct others in specific methods of inspections and operations of the equipment and software used
Supported by qualification and experience, provide advice upon request to and liaise with maintenance work groups and contract companies that are involved with work requiring welding and inspections. Items such as material specifications, deficiencies, substitutions, welding procedures, inspection procedures and other matters of concern are examples of this support
Establish contact and working relationship with engineering, maintenance, operations and work management staff
Establish contact with personnel of other departments, supply/service agencies and local representatives of applicable jurisdictional authorities as required to facilitate the performance of inspection and related surveillance activities
Assist Section Manager in the preparation of detailed work plans identifying manpower and equipment requirements for performance of specific Quality programs
As directed by Section Manager, maintain a working knowledge of station systems, work practices, procedures, applicable codes, and regulations, and be aware of developments in the field of Quality Assurance. When required, provide interpretations of codes, standards & regulations as they apply to the leadership team in the context of work in a nuclear generation station & associated facility, including the area of pressure boundary quality control, quality surveillance and quality assurance
As qualified, provide review and comments to the development of procedures or techniques related to Project Quality Support and Maintenance Quality Support work
Requires entering the station operating island, confined spaces, confinement, containment, and other areas during an outage/non-outage where there is exposure to hazards such as radiation, steam, etc. for duties such as field walk-downs, verifications, inspections and tests witnessing
Perform other duties as required

Specific Accountabilities:* Manage the gang as well as coordinate the efforts of other work groups, i.e., maintenance, operations, engineering, projects, etc., to ensure that the continuous improvement process is adhered to and achieve the approved programs and targeted results through:

Accountability for the outputs of others
Maintaining a team of subordinates who are capable of producing the outputs required
Providing leadership to subordinates, so that they collaborate competently, and with full commitment, with the unit manager and with each other in pursuing the goals set
Provide periodic and frequent updates on progress of on-line and outage work
Providing a safe and healthy work environment to all staff
Demonstrating stewardship of the assets and resources

Skills and Knowledge:* Requires knowledge of material science, industrial metallurgy, electrical, instrumentation & control, chemistry, and industrial methodology, in order to supervise the performance of NDE function

Requires knowledge of technical writing skills in order to prepare clear, concise reports and knowledge of the English language in order to communicate effectively
Requires knowledge of the relationships and interactions of the various Departments and Sections involved in the operation, modification, and maintenance of nuclear power plants

Education and Experience:* This knowledge is normally considered to be gained by completion of Grade 12 plus 2 years of further in an accredited College of Applied Arts & Technology, Polytechnical Institute or Community College for Welding Engineering Technician, NDE Technician or Manufacturing Technician.

8 years up to and including 10 years of experience working in the Quality Control/Surveillance, Pressure Boundary, or NDE Inspection area is considered necessary to gain this knowledge
Requires knowledge of material science, industrial metallurgy, electrical, instrumentation & control, chemistry, and industrial methodology, in order to supervise the performance of Quality Control / Quality Surveillance function.
Requires knowledge of technical writing skills in order to prepare clear, concise reports and knowledge of the English language in order to communicate effectively
Requires familiarity with large-scale nuclear generating station layouts, station systems and equipment, and plant operating processes
Requires experience with visual inspection techniques
Requires knowledge of the relationships and interactions of the various Departments and Sections involved in the operation, modification and maintenance of nuclear power plants
Certifications to Canadian General Standards Board 48.9712 requirements in at least FOUR of the following inspection methods: Radiography, Ultrasonics, Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant are required for many of the roles. Certification to CGSB Level II is required (an appropriate certification to CSA W178.2 (CWB) Level II may be considered equivalent to one CGSB Level II certificate). The ISO 9712 certification for Phased Array Ultrasonics (PCN and CSWIP) may be considered equivalent to one CGSB level II certification
