Meritum Energy, parent company of Pico Propane and Fuels, is seeking an experienced Mobile Diesel Mechanic to maintain client fleets and respond to service calls on-site, who will provide high-quality maintenance and repair. Some duties include inspections, part removal/installation, diagnostics, and accurate documentation, all while delivering exceptional customer service.
This position will support our operations in Carlsbad, NM and surrounding areas.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on company equipment to established standards
- Complete routine truck upkeep, including fluid checks, cleanliness, inspections, and documentation
- Manage and maintain inventory on the service truck to ensure proper stocking of parts and tools
- Receive daily assignments from the Service Manager and respond to after-hours or on-call needs as required
- Use diagnostic tools and technical resources to identify issues and perform accurate repairs
- Diagnose, remove, and replace components such as injectors, oil pans, fan hubs, fifth wheels, brakes, and batteries
- Conduct preventative maintenance and verify repairs through test drives and equipment checks
- Document work performed in the company’s computer or mobile service system in a timely and accurate manner
- Maintain positive customer interactions and advise on recommended future repairs
- Participate in ongoing training and apply updated knowledge to daily work
- Adhere to all safety requirements, including proper PPE use; role is safety-sensitive and subject to drug testing.
- Travel to field locations as needed
- Provide personal hand and power tools; company provides diagnostic equipment and specialty tools

- Mechanical aptitude and technical ability
- 5+ years’ experience as a Class 7 & 8 mechanic or technician in a dealership or related truck service facility- Familiar with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and brake systems
- Knowledge of safety regulations and safe work practices
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Knowledge of use of diagnostic software a plus (ADOC, INSITE)
- Chemical pump and plumbing knowledge a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- ASE Qualifications in Diesel engine applications
- Have a current and valid CDL and Medical card
- Must have a valid drivers license with a clean driving record
- OEM level training/certifications or willingness to obtain such certifications
- Brake, CVSA and/or AC systems certifications a plus
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to heavy weights of 20 to 100 lbs. for approximately 90% of the work shift
- Ability to regularly climb in and out of vehicles multiple times per work shift
- Good hand eye coordination, arm hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp and visual acuity to operate equipment is required, including at night
- Frequent sitting, reaching with hands and arms
- Must be able to speak and hear
- Position is subject to pre-hire DOT medical certification requirements and drug and/or alcohol testing, as well as a physical abilities test performed by a company provider
- Must pass pre-employment screening and background check
- Position may require working evening hours and weekends as needed
- Work is normally performed outside where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, fumes, airborne particles, and gases is common
