This role is responsible for ensuring accurate ore/waste delineation, maintaining geological databases, and contributing to continuous improvement of production geology workflows. The Mine Geologist ensures high‑quality field observations, reliable geological inputs into models, and strong integration with mining operations.
- Provide daily ore control support in the pit, including geological mapping, ore/waste boundary definition, blasthole and field sampling and field validation of model predictions.
- Support drill and blast optimization by integrating geological understanding with blast patterns and fragmentation expectations.
- Support material classification post‑blast and compare outcomes to predicted ore control models.
- Direct field personnel on proper ore/waste segregation and communicate daily dig guidance to operations supervisors.
- Support test pit programs for ML/ARD material delineation within construction scopes.
- Ensure that blast holes are being correctly identified and sampled and that NAG/PAG sampling is performed according to procedure in areas identified.
- Perform data entry, validation, and quality control for blast hole (BH), MLARD characterization and RC drilling information.
- Ensure all mine geology personnel and drilling contractors are working towards providing and collecting the most representative sample possible from the drill rig.
- Conduct pit wall mapping, blast hole mapping and maintain structural, lithological, and mineralization records.
- Ensure timely database entry of assay results and support QA/QC tracking.
- Maintain accuracy of material tracking systems and inputs into reconciliation spreadsheets
- Appropriately process ore blast movement for mining, through use of specialized equipment, software, and drone technology
- Create and update ore control polygons based on drilling, mapping, and model interpretation.
- Update daily face advance maps, distribute and communicate mining progress to shovel operators at shift change.
- Track ore and waste movement and reconcile against plans and daily dig instructions.
- Assist in short‑range geological modeling through data compilation, interpretation, and communication with the Senior Production Geologist.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance ore control processes and data workflows.
- Contribute to documentation, training materials, and best‑practice guidelines for production geology field activities.
- Support development of tools and processes that improve production data reliability and operational decision-making.
- Track relevant geological data related to MLARD management in collaboration with the Production Geology team.
- Ensure material movement records align with environmental and operational compliance plans.
- Work closely with mine operations, drilling contractors, geology, and technical services teams to align geological understanding with operational requirements.
- Provide timely communication of dig plans, geological hazards, and material expectations to operations supervisors.
