Mine Planning Geologist

Rogers Group is currently seeking a Mine Planning Geologist to join our Operations Service and Support (OSS) department in Nashville, TN. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing drilling projects along with core logging. The ideal candidate will be strong in both stratigraphy and petrology. The Mine Planning Geologist will report to the Manager of Mine Planning and Geology and will take on additional responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities:

- Geological investigation, research, and prospecting of potential Greenfields along with current quarries.

- Manage investigative drilling projects including diamond core, auger, sonic, & rotary hammer drilling.

- Ability to create geologically detailed core logs.

- Managing quality control testing of the cores, including logistics and communications with the third-party testing labs.

- Updating and inputting geological data and reports.

- Creation of ultimate pit plans, reserves estimate, and 5-year plans (using Auto Cadd, Carlson, & GIS Software).

- Gather, analyze, and document property boundaries, setbacks, easements, zoning, agreements, and other site-specific land use information needed for mine planning.

- Field data collection with surveying equipment and drones.

- Field time will be required along with some overnight traveling.

- Assist in preparing presentations, documents, reports, and maps as needed.

- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, enhance reserve recovery, reduce costs and impacts, and support operations and public outreach efforts related to safety, efficiency, and cost reduction.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Geology preferred.

- 1-5 years of experience in geology or in a geology-related field.

- Mining, QA/QC, GIS experience, and FG/PG license would be preferred but not required.

- Uncompromising focus on safety excellence, and the ability to complete MSHA safety training.

- Self-motivated and able to work without requiring close supervision.

- Ability to safely lift and move multiple 50lbs core boxes.

- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather and tolerate changing conditions.

- Interested in a career in the aggregate mining industry.

- Detail oriented.
