TerraPower’s Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) program is commercializing the technology to operate a fast spectrum, chloride salt cooled molten salt reactor. The Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE) is slated to be the first liquid-fueled, fast spectrum reactor built and operated, and will be constructed at Idaho National Laboratory.

Senior Pipe Stress Engineer, Mechanical Design, MCFR

TerraPower is seeking a Senior Pipe Stress Engineer to support the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) program and the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE). This position reports to the Mechanical Design Discipline Manager. The role centers on performing ASME B31.3 piping analysis for MCRE detailed design and evolving toward defining MCFR Demonstration Reactor piping systems. You’ll collaborate with System Design, plant designers, structural engineers, and equipment owners in a high-performing, multi-disciplinary environment to deliver a rigorous piping design and analysis package that is ready for turnover to an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company. This role is hybrid with on-site at least four days per week. The ability to be physically present at our Bellevue, WA headquarters is a requirement. A Washington PE license or ability to obtain one promptly is preferred.

Responsibilities:

- Perform ASME B31.3 piping analysis using AutoPIPE, including documentation compliant with TerraPower’s NQA-1 program.

- Work closely with plant designers and structural engineers to define piping layout and pipe supports and to integrate piping designs into the overall project.

- Engage with vendors to select pipe supports.

- Check analysis packages completed by others.

- Support procurement activities including reviews of supplier designs and deliverables.

- Perform and support analyses of other mechanical components and structures as needed.

Key Qualifications and Skills:

- PE License in Washington PE license or ability to obtain one promptly is preferred.

- Bachelor's degree in in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant program from an accredited university and 6 years of relevant experience for level 10, or 10 years of relevant experience for level 11. Experience level may be partially substituted for advanced degree depending on position relevance.

- Knowledgeable of ASME B31.3 and/or B31.1 other relevant industry piping codes and standards.

- Recent experience using a computer pipe stress analysis program (AutoPipe preferred).

- Proficiency in CAD software (Solidworks and AutoCAD Plant3D/Navisworks preferred).

- Experience in high temperature and multi-discipline integration (highly desired).

- Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear handling process systems, or similar high-performance system or equipment design (highly desired).

- Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 (highly desired).

Job Details:

Salary Range Level 10: $117,922 - $176,833

Salary Range Level 11: $138,685 - $208,027

- We typically place offers in the lower to middle portion of the range to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual’s qualifications experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
