Brief Description
The
Material Handling Supervisoris responsible for supervising, planning, and coordinating all material handling functions at the Gavin facility. This includes oversight of bulk material movement, mobile equipment operation, and maintenance activities that support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The role ensures compliance with all safety, environmental, and corporate standards while fostering strong communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement across the department.
General James M. Gavin Power Plant is a 2,600-megawatt supercritical coal-fired power station in the village of Cheshire, Ohio, United States. It is majority owned by Energy Capital Partners and a minor stake is held by Javelin Global Commodities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide daily supervision and direction to Material Handling personnel to ensure safe and efficient handling of materials and operation of mobile equipment.
- Maintain safe working conditions, ensuring proper use of tools, equipment, PPE, and adherence to all company safety policies.
- Lead and participate in safety initiatives, including accident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective action development, and ongoing safety training.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and permit conditions related to material handling operations.
- Support long- and short-range planning for maintenance, capital projects, resource allocation, and operational scheduling.
- Coordinate with other plant departments during outages, emergent events, and operational priorities to ensure adequate support and continuity of plant operations.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, communication, accountability, and operational excellence within the Material Handling department.
- Contribute to process improvements, cost-effective operations, and reliability enhancements for material handling systems and mobile equipment.
- Bachelor’s degree; or Associate degree with equivalent applied experience; or significant relevant industry experience.
- 3 years of power plant or industrial operations experience with a degree; or
- 8 years of material handling and/or power plant experience without a degree.
- This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must be able to work in an industrial power plant environment, including outdoor conditions and rotating equipment areas.
- May require support during plant outages, emergencies, and non-standard work hours.
- Exposure to varied outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces.
- Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear.
- Working near high-voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery, with proper training and safety protocols.
- Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment.
- Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs, operating large valves, and performing tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling, turning, lifting, or carrying.
- Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
- Participation in a post-offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing.
- Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Summary
Applicants must possess a
valid driver's licenseand maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
