Job Summary:
The Logistics Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the logistics department. This role ensures the efficient coordination of inbound and outbound shipments, carrier management, rate negotiation, and customer service. The Logistics Manager oversees a multi-functional team and drives process improvement, compliance and cost optimization across the logistics network.
Key Responsibilities:•Lead and manage a diverse team of logistics coordinators, administrators and specialists.
•Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to direct reports to support their professional growth skill development and career progression.
•Oversee full transportation lifecycle – planning, booking, tracking, and execution across multiple modes of transportation.
•Direct rate negotiations strategies and cultivate carrier partnerships amongst team members to drive cost efficiency and service excellence.
•Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align logistics planning with business needs.
•Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing workflow bottlenecks, enhancing efficiency, and improving customer experience.
•Oversee adherence to transportation insurance policies and applicable governing regulations to mitigate risk and ensure operational continuity.
•Implement financial metrics and KPIs to measure performance across logistics network and vendor partnerships.
•Conduct root-cause analysis of failures and take corrective actions.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience required to perform the job:
•Post-secondary education in Logistics, Business, or Supply Chain Management, or related field.
•10+ years of progressive experience in logistics or transportation, with 3+ years of people leadership experience.
•Knowledge of end-to-end logistics operations (including maritime, over-the-road, rail, customs)
•Experience in rate negotiation and carrier scorecard management.
•Proficient with transportation management software, and Microsoft Office tools, knowledge with load board systems is an asset.
•Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
•Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
•Ability to demonstrate personal initiative, ownership and accountability.
