Their primary function is to ensure that the objectives of the Subsea Controls Group and its Customers are performed to an expected high standard and that specific work tasks are performed safely, effectively and in compliance with their specified objectives. The Subsea Controls Engineer shall be conversant in subsea production operations, control system design and software, manufacturing, testing and installation, and provide a technical focal point for the Customer, Subsea Contractor(s), Suppliers / Vendors and other internal departments.
- Directing and assisting with Concept, PreFEED, FEED and detailed engineering
- Estimate costs and timing to bring the project to execution
- Directing and assisting with ensuring project compliance with specifications and regulations
- Directing and assisting with the development of specification and selection of subsea control systems and distribution equipment (SUTA, SDU, EFL, STFL, etc.)
- Directing and assisting with the development of specifications and selection of subsea controls software systems
- Directing and assisting in development of testing, installation, operation and maintenance procedures
- Developing and/or reviewing topsides integration schematics
- Developing and/or reviewing subsea distribution drawings
- Developing and/or reviewing subsea electrical, fiber, hydraulic and chemical schematics
- Developing and/or reviewing interlocks, and programming cause and effect spreadsheets
- Developing and/or reviewing alarm rationalization manuals
- Witnessing hardware FATs and Subsea Software FATs
- Risk assessment and HAZID responsibilities
- Progress reporting and monitoring responsibilities
- Acting as a Customer Site (Engineering) Representative as may be required
- Assist with training new engineers
- Contribute to lesson learned exercises
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, other disciplines will be considered with relevant experience
- 15-20+; years experience as a subsea controls engineer- Willingness to travel to Operator or Supplier site and offshore
- Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) with the ability to interface directly with clients, interface with internal departments and manage vendors
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Excellent MS Office Suite knowledge
- Must be a US citizen or be authorized to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood
- Proficient in industrial control systems (MCSs, PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, etc.)
- Experience programming, testing and troubleshooting MCS software
- Knowledge of communication protocols (Modbus, CANBUS, Ethernet / IP)
- Knowledge of subsea leak detection technology and methods
- Broad knowledge of industry standards, best practices and related work processes
- Ability to adapt to tight deadlines and frequent changes in priorities
