Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Director, IT/OT Integrations & Global Network Communications, this position will focus on the optimization and support of Operational Technology systems within the IT context, in multiple technical domains including mine, plant, and safety systems. The role will enable secure and efficient integration of applications between the IT and OT, facilitating access to application for users, maintaining optimum security for OT applications.
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in industrial control systems (ICS), demonstrate exceptional troubleshooting abilities, operate independently, and communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Job Responsibilities
1. Operational Technology & ICS Support
•Provide advanced technical support for OT/ICS environments, including PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, DCS, and historians.
•Support authentication mechanisms for OT applications, servers, and end users.
•Lead or contribute to OT application implementations, migrations, and upgrades.
•Conduct system health monitoring, patching, and performance tuning of OT platforms
•Maintain, update, and standardize documentation for deployment, change control, and operations.
•Provide expert-level troubleshooting and serve as final escalation point prior to vendor engagement.
2. IT/OT Integration
•Work collaboratively with IT and OT stakeholders to implement and maintain secure connectivity between enterprise systems and industrial assets.
•Support the integration of data flows between field systems and business intelligence/reporting tools (e.g., AVEVA PI, Wonderware, CONNECT, etc.).
•Participate in the design and deployment of hybrid IT/OT network architectures.
3. Cybersecurity and Compliance
•Implement and uphold cybersecurity standards and best practices in OT environments (e.g., segmentation, firewalls, user access controls).
•Support IT security and compliance initiatives for secure integration with cloud and enterprise systems.
•Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., NIST, IEC 62443) and internal governance policies.
•Collaborate with cybersecurity teams during risk assessments and incident response exercises.
•Operate & maintain OT Asset Management & Vulnerability Management platform for global operations.
4. Project & Vendor Management
•Balance ongoing support tasks with project deliverables and deadlines.
•Participate in all phases of project lifecycles related to OT systems and integrations.
•Support training and knowledge transfer to operations and support teams.
•Maintain accurate documentation for all systems, network diagrams, and configurations.
•Manage third-party vendor relationships, ensuring adherence to service levels and procurement policies.
Sustainability Expectations
•Provide guidance and knowledge transfer to IT Support personnel around the world on IT/OT integration aspects for OT applications;
•Lead global team of administrators to adhere to a governance model and security standards for the Industrial DMZ AD domain;
•Support Kinross’ data security requirements by ensuring that a strong internal infrastructure security posture for servers and applications is maintained at all times;
•Keep IT/OT applications deployment and support documentation up to date. Create new documentation if not available;
•Promote the use of the available monitoring tools and alerts;
•Advise senior leadership in the development and implementation of specialized solutions for Kinross, or on implications of decisions relating to IT integration; act as project lead on implementation programs;
•Continuously update and upgrade knowledge in the IT/OT integration space; build network of external contacts to stay current on trends and best practices; act as “go to person” for best practices inside and outside the company.
Scope of Responsibility & Complexity
•This position requires self-management with low supervision, making key decisions with operational impact based upon personal expertise and available (occasionally incomplete) information.
•Manage relationships with other functions, and within own function on a global level to serve as escalation point and advisor on complex issues relating to IT/OT integration, and represent the function in cross-functional teams related to such matters
•Work involves non-routine situations where established procedures do not always apply and problem resolution requires making significant modifications to existing analytical techniques and/or methods of operation. Work is technical and advanced in its complexity and involves a high degree of independent judgment.
•This individual is expected to be available on an as-needed basis to support OT applications and severs, as well as integrations with IT. Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure is mandatory.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
1. Technical Requirements
•Deep understanding of Windows and Linux server administration.
•Proficient in PowerShell and other scripting tools for automation and configuration.
•Knowledge of secure data exchange between trusted/untrusted networks and Industrial DMZ.
•Strong hands-on experience with:
•Remote Desktop Services, Cluster Services
•Server/application replication and migration
•DCS/SCADA systems (e.g., ABB, Emerson, Rockwell, Schneider Electric)
•Active Directory (multi-domain environments)
•Cybersecurity standards (ISA/IEC 62443, NIST 800-82)
•Industrial communication protocols
•Network infrastructure in industrial environments (switches, VLANs, firewalls)
2. Behavioral & Soft Skills
•Strong decision-making and analytical skills under pressure.
•Exceptional communication skills, able to interface with both IT and OT stakeholders.
•Highly adaptable to evolving priorities in a dynamic, operationally sensitive environment.
•Willingness to work outside regular hours when required.
•Fluent in English; proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, or French is a plus.
Nice-to-Haves
•Previous experience in the mining sector, oil & gas, or other heavy industrial operations.
•Experience with condition monitoring, data historians, and analytics tools (e.g., PI Vision, PI AF, AspenTech Mtell).
•Exposure to cloud-integrated OT systems or hybrid architectures.
•Experience in global or multi-site industrial environments.
This role may involve travel to mine sites.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, operational continuity, and cybersecurity.
