The Helper is a key member of the drilling team, providing essential support to the Driller in various operational tasks on the rig. - Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and potential hazards immediately to the Driller.
- Conduct work safely, utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Exercise the right to refuse dangerous work and follow proper reporting procedures.
- Maintain clear communication with the Driller and crew to ensure readiness for tasks.
- Assist in mentoring and training new employees in their roles.
- Follow the chain of command for addressing concerns, reporting first to the Driller.
- Assist the Driller with drilling duties, including preparing tools and equipment for tasks such as running casing and coring.
- Anticipate the next procedure to minimize delays for the Driller.
- Participate in rig repairs and operations, particularly during rig moves.
- Ensure the availability of materials and supplies for current tasks (e.g., bentonite chips, ATF, hydraulic and engine oil).
- Organize tools and components in the Core shack for easy access.
- Communicate with the crew about tool storage and maintenance.
- Keep accurate records of operations and report any significant changes to the Driller.
- Document and communicate any health, safety, or environmental incidents to the supervisor promptly.
- Maintain a clean and organized rig floor, ensuring it is free of hazards.
- Assist in maintaining and cleaning tools, ensuring they are ready for use and properly stored.
- Perform regular checks on equipment and report deficiencies to the Driller.
- Support the Driller with rig services and maintenance tasks.
- Participate in team efforts aimed at achieving operational goals and zero incidents.
- Seek opportunities for skill enhancement and operational improvements.
- Foster an environment where team members can share ideas for process improvements.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement. If the applicant does not hold this license, then they will be classified as a Floor Hand, and paid the applicable field wage.
- Basic knowledge of drilling operations and tools.
- Previous experience in a drilling support role is preferred.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow directions and work under pressure.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., H2S Alive, First Aid).
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Capability to lift and carry heavy equipment as needed.
