Heavy Equipment Lube Technician

RES Coal is hiring full-time Heavy Equipment Lube Technicians to support one of the largest CAT mining fleets in Pennsylvania. This is steady, year-round field work supporting active surface mines across Central Pennsylvania.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Heavy Equipment Lube Technician performs scheduled preventative maintenance and fluid services on large mining equipment across multiple active mine sites. This role works out of a company lube truck and supports field mechanics during major repairs and component changeouts.

Work begins each day at the RES preparation plant in Clearfield, with travel to active mine sites in Clearfield, Cambria, Centre, Blair, and Armstrong Counties.

Depending on service level and workload, lube technicians may work independently or in a two-person team. Higher-level services and major fluid work are often completed as a team, while routine services are typically completed independently.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform Level 1–4 preventative maintenance services on mining equipment

- Complete scheduled oil and filter changes on major components

- Maintain and operate assigned lube/service truck

- Assist field mechanics during major component changeouts

– Drain and refill compartments

– Handle fluids and filters

– Assist with service support tasks

- Collect, label, and submit oil samples

- Maintain filter and fluid inventory on lube truck

- Complete service documentation and recordkeeping

- Steam clean equipment when required

- Assist around mine sites and preparation plant as needed

This role is critical to maintaining equipment reliability and minimizing downtime.

EQUIPMENT & OPERATIONS SUPPORTED

- CAT haul trucks, dozers, loaders, and support equipment

- Multiple active surface mine sites

- Central preparation plant in Clearfield

- Large mobile mining fleet with structured maintenance intervals

A TYPICAL DAY

- Start at preparation plant in Clearfield

- Review daily service schedule and priorities

- Load truck with required filters, fluids, and supplies

- Travel to assigned mine site

- Perform scheduled services and oil sampling

- Assist mechanics with fluid work as needed

- Restock inventory and complete service records

- Return to plant at end of shift

PAY & SCHEDULE

- $25–$32 per hour depending on experience

- Full-time, year-round employment

- Typical 50-hour workweeks

- Day shift schedule

- Occasional extended shifts or Saturday work as required

- Home daily

TOOLS & SUPPORT

Company-provided:

- Fully equipped lube/service truck (based at plant)

- Filters, fluids, and service inventory systems

- Company cell phone

- PPE and safety equipment

- Support from field mechanics and maintenance leadership

Lube trucks remain company-based — technicians report to the plant daily.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Heavy equipment, diesel, or industrial equipment experience

- Class B CDL with tanker endorsement required

- Ability to work safely and independently in active mine environments

- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal safety procedures in English

- Strong attention to detail and organization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Surface mining or quarry experience

- Previous lube/service truck experience

- MSHA certification

- Mechanical aptitude and interest in advancing within maintenance

- Required use of PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety footwear
