Under the direction of company Chief Estimator and in partnership with the field crews, the Estimator will be responsible for the development of project bids for a wide range of construction projects. The Estimator will be responsible for gathering proposals, developing budgets, and determining cost-effectiveness of project plans. The position requires business management acumen and must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, as well as have strong communication and client service skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Review and understand all project related documents, bid requests, project drawings, specifications and any other items related to the project.
•Attend pre-bid meetings.
•Capable of estimating and assisting in preparation of multiple projects depending on project size and complexity.
•Perform accurate material takeoffs and material pricing.
•Solicit and review offers and quotes by subcontractors or vendors.
•Ensure assigned bids are completed on time and in a professional manner.
•Serve as a liaison with subcontractors and vendors during the bidding process.
•Remain current on all office-designated software related to the estimating process.
•Participate in estimates review meetings pre and post bid date.
•Communicate scope, schedule, and other relevant information for awarded projects with team/crew.
•Maintain records related to cost and inventory for monthly billing. Prepare weekly/monthly billing invoices
•Meet with clients to discuss quality control, extra work authorizations, schedules, and billings
•Inspect job sites in pre-bid and during construction for assessing potential hazards, unexpected complications, or issues
•Oversee contract negotiations, revisions, and contract compliance
•Verifying permits or any other regulatory compliance
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•5 years extensive knowledge in estimating mass excavation, Site work and or Heavy Civil plus a Bachelor’s degree; OR
•10 years of experience in estimating mass excavation, site work and or heavy civil.
•Excellent organizational, computer, and communication skills
•Driving record must meet company requirements and must have reliable transportation
•Experience in Trimble Business Center and/or Magnet Office preferred
•Proficient in B2W, Heavy bid, or other Professional take off software.
•Proficient in all Microsoft office products.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Will interact with people frequently during a shift/work day
•May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
•May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors
•May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
•Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
•Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
•Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
