GVEC is looking to hire you for the position of GIS Technician I to deliver the unexpected with a willingness to continuously develop yourself, your department, and our organization. As GIS Technician I, you will be responsible for submitting changes and improvements to our GIS model, maintaining the model integrity for our GVEC systems as well as helping improve processes and procedures with workflows and software.
The minimum starting pay for this role is $23.00/hr plus bonuses that are tied to a multitude of organizational benchmarks set forth annually. Pay will be determined by skills, qualifications and experience.
- Validate, maintain and ensure the accuracy and reliability of GIS data through quality control process
- Convert and integrate data between various formats and projections for compatibility within GVEC systems
- Collect geographic data using GPS devices and integrate it into GIS databases
- Resolve conflicting data, mapping and connectivity issues through office or field investigation
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to incorporate GIS data into broader projects
- Provide technical support for GIS software and tools
- Create and maintain documentation for GIS projects, workflows and processes
- Perform computer-aided drafting tasks as needed
- Track utility asset data lifecycle, including inspections and attachments
- Stay current with advancements in GIS technology and best practices through continuous learning
- Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Science or 2 years of relevant experience
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS); ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro knowledge preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Effective problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and integrity
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Willingness to work overtime if necessary
- Comfortable working primarily in an office environment
- Basic proficiency with Window operating systems
- Experience with NISC mapping and staking software
- Knowledge of work order and service order processing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Electric utility and fiber modeling/construction knowledge is a plus
- Ability to read and interpret staking sheets
