The Freight Manager will play a pivotal role in bringing domestic freight operations in-house while also contributing to the broader logistics framework of the company. This individual will oversee the purchase of trucks, the hiring of drivers, and the management of all in-house freight operations, ensuring cost-effective, timely deliveries, and compliance with transportation regulations. The ideal candidate possesses strong logistics experience, including fleet management, and is excited to help build and scale our in-house freight operations while integrating with the overall supply chain processes.
- Oversee the purchase and management of trucks, ensuring they align with both freight and broader logistics objectives.
- Hire and manage a driver teams, ensuring they meet company safety and performance standards.
- Coordinate the logistics and transportation of in-house freight, ensuring timely, efficient delivery of materials and integration with supply chain operations.
- Negotiate contracts with carriers and vendors to supplement internal freight capacity as needed.
- Develop and manage the in-house freight budget, focusing on cost savings, operational efficiency, and overall logistics optimization.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations (e.g., DOT, CDL).
- Monitor fleet performance, maintenance schedules, and safety protocols to ensure smooth operations.
- Work closely with internal teams (e.g., procurement, operations, and inventory management) to align delivery schedules and optimize logistics processes.
- Analyze and report on fleet performance, shipping costs, delivery times, and logistics data to support strategic decision-making and operational improvements.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Proficient in fleet management software, logistics systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on logistics efficiency.
- Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements in both freight logistics and shipping.
- Strong understanding of freight management, logistics, fleet operations, and transportation regulations.
- Ability to balance cost efficiency with high service levels.
- High School diploma or GED (required)
- Degree or certification in logistics, supply chain, business, or a related field (highly preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in logistics, fleet, or transportation management (required)- Experience hiring and managing drivers, as well as overseeing fleet maintenance (required)
- Knowledge of DOT and CDL compliance regulations (required)
