This role goes beyond day-to-day shipping supervision—requiring expertise in ERP system integration, process automation, compliance oversight, and technical problem-solving to ensure operational accuracy, cost control, and on-time delivery. The Logistics Manager will oversee a team of shippers and work cross-functionally with production, customer service, and finance teams to implement scalable workflows, maintain compliance, and continuously improve logistics performance.
· Experience in freight cost negotiation and vendor performance management.
· 5+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
· Proven ERP experience (e.g., NetSuite, or equivalent) with the ability to create workflows, troubleshoot, and train staff.
· Strong knowledge of domestic and international shipping processes, including LTL, freight forwarding, customs documentation, and dangerous goods handling.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with technical troubleshooting.
· Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
· Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma).
· Background in process automation and systems optimization.
While also directly interacting with our packing and production departments, this individual will primarily be responsible for overseeing the work of a team of shippers. Job Duties include:
· Direct and oversee daily shipping activities across Ground, LTL, Freight, and Express carriers, ensuring compliance with regulations and company policies.
· Select and negotiate optimal transportation methods, balancing cost, speed, and reliability.
· Oversee pallet/crate construction to meet shipping safety standards and product protection requirements.
· Manage Will Call orders, ensuring timely readiness and excellent customer experience.
· Lead shipping operations within the company ERP system, ensuring accurate data entry, workflow mapping, and integration with order fulfillment, finance, and inventory modules.
· Collaborate with IT to automate recurring shipping workflows, improve tracking visibility, and reduce errors.
· Maintain and document ERP procedures related to shipping, returns, and compliance.
· Ensure all shipments—domestic and international—comply with applicable carrier, customs, and dangerous goods regulations.
· Oversee Return Goods Authorization (RGA) inspections, maintaining adherence to company quality standards.
· Maintain readiness for audits through accurate record-keeping of shipments, tracking data, and costs.
· Conduct periodic audits of shipping operations to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements.
· Develop and maintain KPIs for shipping accuracy, cost per shipment, on-time delivery, and claims resolution.
· Prepare activity and cost reports for senior management, recommending alternatives to reduce expense and increase efficiency.
· Lead, train, and develop the shipping team, fostering a culture of accountability and problem-solving.
· Coordinate with production to align shipping schedules with manufacturing output.
· Partner with sales and customer service to ensure proactive communication on shipment status, delays, and special handling needs.
· Support trade show logistics, ensuring timely delivery and return of materials.
