Primary Function: The Dispatcher is responsible for all dispatch activities related to PCI teamster employees and hourly third-party trucking, including dumps, flatbeds, and lowboys in the construction environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
•Schedule and dispatch lowboys, acquire permits for oversize & overweight loads, making sure job sites receive equipment on time.
•Schedule and dispatch teamsters and equipment to appropriate locations according to customer requests and specifications. Prepare daily dispatch schedules.
•Responsible for DOT and fleet safety regulatory compliance.
•Oversee all communications and relay messages and information to or from work crews, supervisors, and field personnel.
•Communicate with the shop for necessary repairs in order to restore service and schedules.
•Monitor equipment locations and utilization to coordinate service and schedules.
•Review daily time sheets, and enter teamster time in Viewpoint for payroll.
•Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
•Must know and be versed on the IDOT, Oxcart, County, and Municipal oversize-overweight online permitting services.
•Knowledge of DOT/Federal Motor Carrier rules/regulations, GVW's and state regulations regarding height and weight maximums.
•Familiarity of heavy highway equipment and trucks.
•Demonstrated ability to multi-task across several projects.
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel and Word.
•Self-directed and motivated with effective leadership skills.
•3-5 years prior experience dispatching for a heavy highway and road construction company
Preferred Education & Experience:
•Experience with Viewpoint and HCSS software.
•Knowledge of Teamsters seniority.
•Knowledge of hazmat transport and placarding.
Knowledge of hydraulics, electronics, gas and diesel machinery.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
•Problem Solving: Strong ability to resolve scheduling conflicts efficiently while maintaining clear, effective communication with all levels of field personnel. Capable of working through issues that involve a limited set of specific variables within standardized situations, ensuring solutions that support project continuity and efficiency.
•Interpersonal Communication:
•Internal Contacts: Daily communication with Fleet Drivers, Shop personnel, Field Superintendents/Foremen, and other departments as necessary, to support coordinated operations.
•External Contacts: Occasional interaction with customers, as well as equipment sales and rental vendors, to facilitate external needs and maintain strong professional relationships.
•Supervisory Responsibility: Skilled in supervising and managing the activities of PCI Teamsters to ensure alignment with company standards.
