This team performs a variety of critical tasks for the District, including custodial and meeting room maintenance, small equipment operation and maintenance, painting, carpentry, plumbing, landscaping and other duties.The successful trainee will be eligible to move into regular District positions if available. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

The Facilities Maintenance Worker Trainee will learn to perform the following duties with increasing independence over time: Assist in maintaining district and non-district facilities thru such activities as general custodial work, lawn mowing, snow plowing and shoveling, and wet well cleaning. Help ensure operation and reliability of equipment. Learn to perform preventive maintenance, inspections, including but not limited to odor control equipment, process tanks, aeration tank aeration systems, primary tank collectors and drives, lawn maintenance equipment and portable equipment, to ensure the safe and efficient operation of plant processes. Form a basic knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic features of all district equipment. Identifies and gathers supplies, and materials for specific tasks. Focuses on timely completion and quality of work; including job site and tool clean-up and proper storage. Learn about district and community owned pumping stationsLearn to create work requests and document the resolution of tasks in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Provide quality service to internal and external customers through the timely and accurate completion of work orders.Learn to use hand and power tools safely and efficiently. Learn to maintain service trucks in good working condition with a full complement of tools, work equipment, parts and supplies at all times.Maintain a clean and safe environment in the shop.Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Work is performed inside and outside the wastewater treatment facilities and at remote lift stations, with exposure to potentially harmful atmospheres, confined spaces, extreme weather, raw wastewater, biosolids, slippery and dusty conditions. Working conditions include frequent demanding physical activity and mental concentration on a wide variety of tasks. Must be able to work safely with, and in close proximity to, operating mechanical devices with a potential for serious injury present, for many hours each day. Requires the use of light hand tools and heavy power tools. Must be able to occasionally lift loads up to 50 pounds unassisted. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, crawl, sit, twist, turn, climb ladders, work from scaffolding or lifting equipment, and work in very awkward positions for extended periods. Individuals in this position will work day shift but can be subject to call-in at all hours of the day or night. The level of risk is such that it requires close attention to work details; adherence to safety programs and procedures; and use of personal protective equipment to prevent accidents or injuries. It also requires the necessary speaking and hearing ability to communicate in person, publicly, or over the phone. The noise level varies from quiet to loud.
