Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Automation Technical Professional with a strong background in Yokogawa CENTUM VP and/or ProSafe-RS . This position will be based in our Calgary office.
You will participate in the design and implementation of automation systems for oil & gas and process industry projects, engaging in all project phases—from front-end engineering to commissioning. Responsibilities include supporting site surveys, FATs, SATs, and commissioning activities, as well as reviewing project schedules and cost estimates. You will assist procurement with vendor lists, requisitions, and technical evaluations, and travel to customer locations for project implementation (approximately 25%).

The successful candidate will support local on-site client activities, including off-hours call-out support if required. Hands-on experience configuring Yokogawa CENTUM VP DCS and/or Yokogawa ProSafe-RS SIS is essential. On-site activities will include program updates and troubleshooting
- Participate in automation engineering projects for the design and implementation of automation systems for oil & gas and process industry projects
- Engage in all phases of automation projects: front-end engineering, detailed design, procurement, configuration, implementation, startup, and commissioning
- Work in areas such as DCS configuration, SCADA, HMI, SIS/FGS PLC programming and interfacing, architecture and networking, and specification development
- Attend and support site surveys, Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), and commissioning activities
- Review and provide input on project schedules and cost estimates
- Support procurement with vendor list development, requisition preparation, technical bid evaluations, clarifications, and purchase recommendations
- Monitor vendor progress and maintain communication as required
- Travel to customer locations for project implementation (approximately 25%)

- Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in one of the following disciplines: Chemical Engineering, Electrical, Computers/Systems, or Mechatronics.
- Must have between 5- and 15-years’ Automation experience.
- Experience with an operating company, systems vendor, or engineering services provider for the onshore or offshore oil & gas and/or energy industry, is preferred.
- At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in Distributed Control Systems (DCS) hardware, network architecture, integration, configuration and programming, industrial protocols, HMI Graphics and databases, and SCADA System configuration and installations.
- Hands-on experience with at least one of the following platforms - Honeywell Experion/TDC DCS or FSC/SM, DeltaV DCS/SIS, Yokogawa CENTUM DCS/ProSafe, or ABB 800XA. Preference is for Honeywell or DeltaV.
- Experience with PLC platforms (Allen Bradley PLC, Siemens or Triconex, etc.) is a plus.
- Demonstrated proficient knowledge of the principles of relational databases, application interfaces, and Human Machine Interface design and implementation.
- Strong background and direct experience with multiple systems platforms, operating systems and the interactions between systems, system hardware and architecture.
- Proficient knowledge of P&IDs and instrumentation/control equipment.
- Knowledge of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Access, MS Teams, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers, clients, and vendors.
