The Opportunity

We are seeking an Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls (EIC) Technician who ha s knowledge and experience in EIC operations and maintenance. Th is individual has the proven competencies and capacity to repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform planned maintenance and corrective tasks on assigned electronic, electrical, pneumatic and/or mechanical control systems, devices, and ancillary equipment.

The successful candidate will operate and maintain oil pump stations, pipeline, and auxiliary equipment such as variable frequency electrical drives, soft start equipment, PLCs, electrical generators, air compressors, pumps, valves, filters, etc. in a manner that meets operational needs, and in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

This role is located at the Heartland Terminal near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and operates on a two-week rotating schedule, alternating between a 44-hour workweek (9-hour shifts Monday through Thursday and 8 hours on Friday) and a 36-hour workweek (9-hour shifts Monday through Thursday).

What You Will Do

- Perform installation, testing, repair and maintenance on oil storage facilities, pipelines, and oil pump stations as well as other associated equipment used in oil transmission systems

- Troubleshoot equipment problems utilizing technical reference manuals and documents and in conjunction with remote specialists

- Perform technical analysis to prepare recommendations for future action

- Provide multi-skilled maintenance support with other technicians in the completion of pipeline and mechanical activitie s

- Support on-call rotation, emergency response and after hour requirements of the Northern Alberta Pipeline System

- Monitor contractor activity while on-site

- Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in Microsoft Dynamics

- Provide coaching, mentoring and training to other personnel

- M anage and coordinate usage of third-party contractors

- Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

- A fully certified Journeyperson Electrician or equivalent is required

- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience; previous experience with piping, motor operated valves and operations would be an asset

- An alternate combination of education and experience may be considered

- Additional industry related certification and/or related trades experience

- Highly motivated with interpersonal skills to effectively work in a collaborative team e nvironment that includes shared responsibilities, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, support team and company objectives , and a willingness to work in all areas required by the team

- Capability to accomplish tasks and assignments safely and responsibly , with a focus on appropriate handling and disposal of hazardous waste

- Ability to utilize computers and e-mail for internal and external communication, record keeping, on-line reporting, material and supply ordering, and filing of various forms

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous oil/liquid expertise and experience

- Previous pump station experience

- Able to act and work independently and able to effectively work in a team environment that includes shared responsibilities in support of team and company objectives

- Thorough understanding of test equipment used to maintain control systems

- Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills when encountering issues and able to use these skills when troubleshooting

- Competent using equipment applicable to the maintenance of control and measurement systems

This position requires candidates to:

- Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada and the US)

- Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing

- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record

- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (up to 10% of work schedule)

- B e part of an on-call rotation and provide emergency support as required
