About This Job

About Waga Energy

Waga Energy was established to further our founders' commitments to preserving the common good and acting collectively to ensure a sustainable future.

Committed to the fight against global warming and to a sustainable energy transition, Waga Energy has developed a breakthrough technology to recover landfill gas into biomethane, also called Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). Our WAGABOX® landfill gas upgrading units deliver high-quality biomethane, regardless of the quality of the raw biogas. The biomethane produced by the WAGABOX® can be injected directly into the gas grid or used as fuel for vehicles. Waga Energy builds, owns, operates, and maintains the WAGABOX® units under long-term contracts with landfill owners, and biomethane sales revenue is shared

Already in operation at dozens of landfill sites worldwide, this revolutionary landfill gas purification solution has been producing clean, local renewable energy since 2015. Waga Energy is committed to a mission of driving a sustainable energy transition by making RNG accessible to all.

Guided by the values of Boldness, Mastery, and Cooperation, Waga Energy employees in Europe, North America, and other locations are united by a common purpose: maintaining a livable planet for future generations.

About The Position - Responsibilities & Duties

This is an exciting, rewarding position promoting the role of renewable energies, notably renewable natural gas, in the future of energy transition.

The Electrical Engineer serves as a member of a collaborative project delivery team responsible for the design, specification, construction, operation, and maintenance of the electrical systems that power Waga Energy’s WAGABOX® units. This role supports projects from the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase through commissioning and ongoing operations working closely with internal and external teams to deliver high-quality RNG plants across the US.

Blending office-based technical design and project coordination work with hands-on fieldwork during construction and commissioning, this position offers a dynamic mix of responsibilities.

Areas of responsibility include, but will not be limited to:

Engineering Design & Procurement (Office-based Responsibilities)

- Support the development and review of electrical design deliverables in collaboration with external engineering firms, ensuring adherence to internal standards as well as all applicable codes, regulations, and industry best practices.

- Participate in detailed design reviews for medium/low voltage systems, grounding and bonding systems, instrumentation, and control system architecture.

- Support the development of electrical interconnection packages for utility tie-ins, generator interfaces, and load distribution systems.

- Perform system-level functional analyses to ensure safety, reliability, and ease of operation.

- Define hardware architecture and contribute to the specification of control panels, VFDs, instrumentation, and SCADA/PLC systems.

- Specify, evaluate, and procure electrical and instrumentation equipment, including vendor selection and cost optimization.

- Prepare technical documentation to support permitting, construction, and commissioning phases.

Construction, Testing & Commissioning (Field-based Responsibilities)

- Travel to supplier facilities and project sites to supervise electrical equipment manufacturing, installation, and testing.

- Support on-site construction teams to ensure compliance with design specifications and electrical safety standards.

- Support the inspection and acceptance of delivered electrical and automation equipment.

- Plan and execute instrumentation and electrical functional tests, including power distribution checks, loop checks, and interlock verifications.

- Conduct and document communication and control systems testing, including SCADA, PLC, and remote monitoring system functionality.

- Prepare and execute Elements Important to Safety (EIS) test procedures in coordination with HSE and commissioning teams.

- Develop and maintain operating documents, electrical drawings, and commissioning records for each site.

- Participate in plant commissioning activities.

Operations & Reliability Support

- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams post-commissioning to troubleshoot EIA-related issues and optimize plant performance.

- Monitor electrical system performance and contribute to root cause analysis for system failures or anomalies.

- Provide remote and on-site technical support for planned and corrective maintenance activities.

About You - Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical knowledge, systems thinking, and a proactive approach to problem-solving across all phases of a project and have:

- A bachelor’s or master’s (preferred) degree in electrical engineering.

- Applicable US electrical and instrumentation standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, ISA).

- Strong commitment to electrical safety, familiarity with risk assessments, and application of safe work practices in industrial settings.

- Technical skills in the areas of:

- Process engineering (P&ID, PFD, Hazop, functional analysis, etc.) and mechanical engineering (piping, pressure vessels, etc.).

- Industrial instrumentation systems including instrument selection & calibration, gas quality monitoring instrumentation, control loops, and feedback systems.

- Industrial automation and control systems including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, programmable logic control (PLC) systems, distributed control systems (DCS), and sensor integration.

- System integration and communication including the integration of electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems, communication protocols, and cybersecurity for industrial control systems (ICS).

- Experience with common industrial control platforms such as Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Schneider Electric systems.

- Hands-on experience with site commissioning, equipment installation, and field troubleshooting of EIA systems.
