Rock Construction & Mining Inc. is seeking diligent and detail-orientated Drill and Blast / Mining Engineer to work with our operations team on mining and construction projects across Canada. This position will be based out of our head office in Kamloops, with occasional out-of-town work and comes with industry best wages and benefits.
Responsibilities will include designing, planning, and executing drilling and blasting operations while adhering to safety standards. Our ideal candidate is experienced and confident with the latest drilling and blasting technologies, has a solid understanding of geological data interpretation, and is proficient in the use of blast design software to ensure efficient and safe blasting operations that align with our project goals and comply with industry regulations and best standards.

- Establishing site control/localization for GPS
- Topographical surveys (Topcon GPS and drone)
- Determine and advise on appropriate drilling and blasting methods for mining or construction.
- Develop and monitor blast design and execution to ensure positive performance through provision of drill and blast engineering services including blast hole pattern design and ‘tie-in’/charge design.
- Utilize computer applications for mine / drill pattern design, modelling, mapping or for monitoring conditions.
- Maintain and improve safe work practices; offer innovative ideas for positive improvement.
- Liaise with the Drill and Blast Superintendent to ensure drilling and blasting. operations are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintain and enhance contractor relationships.
- Liaise with the Drill and blast Superintendent to develop and implement procedures that optimise the drill and blast process.
- Resolve drill and blast technical problems.
- Prepare, monitor and update production data associated with drilling and blasting activities.
- Review Q/A data, digging sheets and blast videos to determine areas of further improvement.
- Liaise with consultant and specialist suppliers as required.
- Delivers technical support to the Operations / Drill and Blast Ops team.
- Attend pre-job start-up meetings.
- Submit pre-job document requirements.
- Liaison and effective communication between the project owner, management, and project team.
- Reporting on quantities for billing.
- Delegate work tasks to the (Mining) Engineer in Training (EIT) and support their learning while leading by example.
- Review tender documents and blueprints.
- Perform take-offs to determine the volume/area/quantity of material included in RFQ’s.
- Understand project quantities, logistics and scheduling.
- Understand equipment requirements, manpower and materials needed.
- Attend pre-tender site meetings.
- Assist with preparation of final tender package, where required.
- Attend pre-job start-up meetings.
- Develop and submit pre-job document requirements, e.g. execution plans.
- Liaison between the project owner, management, and project team.
- Highly organized, detail orientated, diligent and able to prioritize
- Work accurately and meet tight deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced computer skills with Word, Excel, Outlook, and AutoCAD/Civil3D
- Ability to work with others as a team
- Ability to delegate and possess supervisory skills
- Good rapport with customers and service-oriented
- Knowledge of OHS and Mining Regulations is essential
- The position is local to Kamloops, but travel will be required to specific projects outside of the area within Canada
- Valid and clean Driver's License
- Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology or Engineering Technology Diploma
- Preferred areas of study: Mining, Civil Engineering.
- AutoCAD
- PMI training is considered an asset
- Drilling and Blasting - minimum of 5 years

Preference will be given to those candidates with proven experience in a mining/civil background.
