The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $175,000 - $219,000
Job Summary
The Director of Indirect Tax will lead the strategy, compliance, audits, and risk management for all indirect taxes in the US. This role is pivotal in ensuring tax efficiency, compliance, and alignment with Avangrid’s operations and sustainability goals, promoting business growth, and driving process enhancement initiatives.
The successful candidate will bring multi-state tax technical expertise in both transaction taxes and complex property tax administration, along with an innovative mindset for supporting our efforts to modernize our tax administration processes.
A key focus of this role will be transitioning the indirect tax function from an outsourced model to a fully in-house team, building internal capabilities and fostering a high-performance culture. The Director will also spearhead the implementation and optimization of tax technology solutions, including ERP integrations, tax engines, and data analytics tools, to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of tax operations.
This role will develop partnerships with key stakeholders across the organization to help strengthen the tax team’s connection to and interface with our business partners. They will provide mentoring and coaching while driving the implementation of tools and process enhancements designed to positively impact how the non-income tax team is able to deliver for business operations across the United States.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced problem solver with excellent communication and leadership skills who can effectively multi-task and prioritize competing projects and deadlines while delivering results aligning with corporate objectives. Experience with the energy industry and regulated utilities is strongly preferred. This is a strategic leadership role that requires a forward-thinking mindset, strong technical expertise, and the ability to drive transformation in a complex tax environment.
