Primary purpose:
This is a highly visible and cross-functional role. This position will lead sales and use tax compliance and incentives analysis for new projects and existing assets. The right candidate will have a strong ability to build financial models and use analysis to make recommendations that support acquisitions and other strategic decisions. Key elements of the role include managing exemptions, sales & use tax compliance in several states and support for the outsourced property tax function. This position requires collaboration with multiple teams: Operations, Legal, Procurement, Accounting, Finance, etc. The ideal candidate will have a professional-growth mindset, willing to take ownership for continuous process improvement.
Job Responsibilities:
•Combination of oversight and preparation of sales and use tax returns.
•Indirect Tax incentives analysis.
•Maintain and file all sales tax exemption certificates.
•Review and reconcile general ledger accounts for all transaction taxes.
•Research and monitor the tax landscape of jurisdictions in which Tallgrass operates.
•Lead merger and acquisition analysis regarding sales/use tax due diligence, model potential transactions.
•Respond to state tax notices and audit requests.
•Manage property tax compliance and planning process.
•Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations related to transaction tax payments and refunds.
•Maintain thorough records and documentation for all transaction tax-related activities.
•Communicate and collaborate effectively with Commercial, Legal, Procurement, Accounting, Finance and other teams to provide tax-related insights and support.
•Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
•Other duties as assigned.
Minimum requirements :
Education:
•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or a related discipline.
Experience/Specific Knowledge:
•A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in Transaction Taxes in the energy industry.
•Previous supervisory experience.
•Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications, Vertex, Oracle ERP.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
•Current CPA license preferred.
•Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Working Conditions:
•May be required to carry a cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
•The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $100,000-$170,000/yr
Supervisory Responsibility:

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
•Master’s degree in Accounting or related field.
•Broad exposure to multistate and local jurisdictions.
