Position Summary

The Director, Customer Data and Compliance will lead the creation and execution of a data management and compliance program for critical customer data. This role will work cross-functionally to ensure compliance with data management regulations, processes, and procedures. The Director will be responsible for derisking data exposure, leading a customer data governance model, and managing the risk and integrity of data. Additionally, this role will oversee the compliance framework to ensure adherence to applicable standards, laws, and regulations.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and the Oakland General Office(OGO) 3 days a week and or as business needs require.

Reporting Relationship: This role will report to the Customer Technology Planning and Enablement team, specifically to the Senior Director, Infrastructure and Operations.

Job Responsibilities: Lead the team that captures and catalogues all customer master data along with data owners. Manage data sets to derisk exposure and ensure appropriate use cases. Implement an oversight process to ensure appropriate use cases and use of data. Govern the integrity of data and how that data is used internally and externally. Set the vision and implement a strategy for the broader C&ES enforcing data validations or process changes. The strategy is how we create the lasting change that will benefit our customers and coworkers. Translate the business capability needs and requirements of the PG&E lines of business into a comprehensive, integrated data management strategy and roadmap. Drive consistency of data asset management plan development and implementation. Execute on foundational data maturity activities identified in the Enterprise Data Management program’s strategy. Partner with IT to support the creation of trusted data sources. Deliver data quality improvement projects that enable risk-informed, data-driven decisions. Effectively communicate developments relating to data governance, management, and integrity across the company, including increasing the company’s data literacy. Provide regular reporting and status updates to ensure business and IT leadership are kept informed of project status, issues, and risk. Build and maintain strong relationships with data asset family owners, lines of business, and external agencies to understand business requirements, resolve issues, and improve customer outcomes. Organize, schedule, coordinate, and lead communities of practice or other working groups to accomplish assigned objectives. Identify, define, and escalate issues related to data security, data access, data ownership, and data governance policy, standards, and procedures. Ensure data-related issues and risks are appropriately surfaced and resolved. Measure, monitor, and maintain standards and compliance for customer data policies. Draft and maintain the Digital Strategy team’s standards around work processes based on changes to applicable laws, regulations, and standards. Develop and maintain a risk register, coordinating with various risk owners to track and mitigate risks, and ensuring the effectiveness of mitigation activities. Audit established procedures and work products to validate that records are accurate and compliance is maintained. Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and respond to data/reporting inquiries. Influence senior leadership regarding strategies for compliance processes, policies, communication with regulatory agencies, and best practices. Oversee the creation and maintenance of compliance programs and audit activities for program monitoring and governance. Support change management, training, and communication of digital compliance standards, processes, and results, and/or risk management standards and risk analyses and assessments.

Compensation

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle of the range. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range in the Bay Area is: Minimum: $186,000

Maximum: $316,000

Background Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, or job-related discipline, or equivalent experience. 10 years of relevant job experience. Leadership experience.

Desired: 10 years of work experience with privacy, compliance, risk, audits, customer service, governance, or utility operations. Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP), Leading Professional in Ethics and Compliance (LPEC), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP). Experience working with GDPR, TCPA, WCAG 2.1aa, CCPA, CPRA, and CAN SPAM laws. Anticipates issues and develops innovative solutions to enhance controls and mitigate risks. Acts as a consultant to internal and/or external groups to benchmark company performance and promote knowledge of compliance and risk management best practices. Challenges business decisions and presents risk mitigation alternatives, as appropriate. Reviews and/or creates internal and external procedures and controls for access to enterprise customer data to ensure compliance with all relevant privacy and data protection laws and contractual commitments. Experience with the OneTrust tool and cookie categorization or a similar digital privacy management tool. Deep knowledge of practices and tools used for data governance, data management, and data quality. Ability to collaborate and organize groups of people across lines of business to focus on data management outcomes. Engages in necessary productive conflict to achieve results for a broad set of stakeholders. Ability to manage program risk and cost, adapting to unexpected events. Ability to translate between data management and business principles. Executive presence to influence broad spectrums of people, including executive leaders.
