The Drill and Blast Technician will safely and accurately drill holes to the required depth, diameter and angle while following all safety regulations.
- Able to perform the essential functions of the position according to the Physical Demands Analysis
- Accurately load holes with bulk product to a specific powder factor with proper timing and distribution.
- Perform bench preparation activities with large equipment when required.
- Effectively liaise and communicate and maintain a good relationship with team members, contractor/suppliers and others
- Operate mobile drilling machines to bore holes for blasting
- Work to ensure the drills are effectively operated and safety standards, targets, criteria and deadlines are met
- Follow instructions or diagrams, lay out drill pattern and determine depth and diameter of blast holes
- Measure locations and stake out pattern of holes to be drilled
- Responsible for the compliance with Federal, State, and Company regulations, policies and procedures as it relates to the drill and blast area
- Work with Operations to ensure that drill and blast (D&B) activities are completed in a timely fashion
- Be productive in team involvement, responsibility, accountability and empowerment with the employees
- Participate in all inspections for Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), State, Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA)
- Help minimize downtime and wastage
- Follow and maintain a safe work environment and best practices
- Ensure that all ACWI policies/procedures are followed along with all state and federal laws
- Handle, store and transport explosives and accessories in accordance with industry procedures, criteria and regulations ensuring maximum safety
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Maintain confidentiality with sensitive issues
- Other projects as directed
