Founded in 2002, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is a not-for-profit organization tasked with the safe, long-term management of Canada’s intermediate- and high-level radioactive waste, in a manner that protects people and the environment for generations to come.

The NWMO has been guided for more than 20 years by a dedicated team of world-class scientists, engineers and Indigenous Knowledge Holders who are developing innovative and collaborative solutions for nuclear waste management. In 2024, the NWMO selected Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and the Township of Ignace as the hosts for the site for a deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel.


This decision means our office and staff will, in the future, be relocating to Ignace, Ont., and the deep geological repository will be situated in the area near Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and the Township of Ignace. Infrastructure planning and development are underway to support this transition and ensure that both the community and our employees are well served and supported, now and in the future.



Communications Associate – Bilingual


Fulltime - One (1) Position Available

Job Summary:


We are currently seeking an experienced Communications Associate-Bilingual to join our energetic and fast-paced Communications team. Reporting to the Manager, Communications-Impact Assessment, the Communications Associate-Bilingual would be responsible for overseeing the translation of NWMO documents and managing the production of communications materials in particular as they relate to impact assessment and regulatory documents. This role will also support the Manager, Communications, Impact Assessment in the development of communications materials.



Responsibilities

Provide French translation for a variety of reports, plans, materials, publications, correspondence and information.
Review work completed by external translators to ensure it is consistent and accurate, and that it is produced in accordance with NWMO deadlines.
Project manage the production of communications materials, from content development (writing, editing, proofreading, approval, translation) to design, production, printing and distribution. Ensure all materials:

- Are consistent with and help achieve NWMO communications strategies;

- Are aligned with NWMO brand standards;

- Communicate consistent key messages;

- Are appropriately adapted to multiple platforms where required;

- Incorporate current communications best practices; and

- Are appropriate given the specialized needs of each target audience.

Examples of materials include reports, newsletters, backgrounders, brochures, reports, web copy, social media content, video scripts, exhibits and ads.

Manage a range of internal and external resources to ensure each project is produced on time, on budget and in accordance with NWMO brand standards and communications strategies. Ensure resources are scheduled to avoid bottlenecks, delays or unnecessary costs. These resources typically could include graphic designers, photographers, translators, exhibit developers and printers.
Contribute to and support the development and implementation of NWMO communications and engagement strategies.
From time to time, represent the NWMO in engagement activities with both English and French audiences. This may involve representing the NWMO at public engagement events such as open houses or trade conferences and handling questions from the public.
Perform other duties as required.



Qualifications and Experience

A four-year university degree in communications, public relations or journalism or equivalent.
Over two years’ experience in communications and public relations, ideally with experience in corporate communications, to be able to contribute to, support and execute communications strategies and plans.
Excellent writing and editing skills to develop and implement content, content strategies and communications materials.
Demonstrated ability to plan, research and collaborate to produce written content in English and in French.
Demonstrated ability to communicate through internal social channels, e.g. Teams.
Demonstrated experience in writing, editing and proofreading content in both English and French for a variety of communications media.
Excellent oral and written communication and translation skills in French and in English.
Excellent project management and organizational skills.
A strong customer service orientation to the work.
Proficiency in standard word processing, presentation and desktop publishing applications.



Other Information

Must be eligible to work in Canada and must be able to meet security clearance requirements.


Candidates residing in the Greater Toronto Area: Office Location – 22 St. Clair Avenue East until their role is required to relocate.


NWMO currently operates in a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office (Tuesdays being universal) and 2 days working from home.
