Collection Systems Operator

Today's North Charleston Sewer District was originally established in 1972 by an Act of the South Carolina General Assembly. Previously, wastewater collection and treatment in the North Area were accomplished by a consolidated public service district. Now operating under a nine-member Commission, the District is committed to "...construction, operation, maintenance and enlargement of...sewers and sewage treatment and disposal...necessary to protect the health of those living in the District, and to provide for the collection, treatment and disposal of sewage and industrial effluent."

Job Description:

The North Charleston Sewer District is looking for add a Collection Systems Operator Position effective immediately.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assists in the operation and maintenance of sewer main lines, laterals, and pumping stations.

- Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as dump truck, wash out truck, and, fork lift.

- Uses a variety of tools such as chain cutters, pipe saw, tape measure, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as PVC pipe, fittings, glue, etc.

- Makes taps, tie-ins, and repairs broken lines.

Qualifications:

- A high school diploma or GED equivalent

- Six months of related experience in sewer or construction industry; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

- Must have a valid South Carolina Vehicle operator license
