Under the general direction of the Machine Shop Supervisor, the CNC Machinist performs setups and operates CNC equipment to machine metallic and non-metallic parts. The incumbent is required to operate and effectively manage the output of machines in accordance with instruction and schedules as assigned. Required to CNC Lathe machine items to complete work orders produced by the engineering department and production flow manager. May also be occasionally required to operate conventional machining equipment.

Position Summary: The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC lathes to produce high-precision Kovar parts used in defense and aerospace applications. This role requires strict adherence to specifications, safety standards, and quality procedures aligned with defense industry requirements, including ITAR compliance and ISO 9001 quality standards.
- setup and operate 3-axis, 3+2-axis, & 5-axis CNC mills, mill-turn, and lathes
- monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed
- functional understanding of drawings (dimensions & tolerances, views, notes) and basic GD&T (Position, Flatness, Parallelism, Perpendicularity, Profile)
- use basic inspection equipment (caliper, micrometer, height gauge)
- perform in-process inspections
- basic machine maintenance (chip removal, coolant checks, etc.) and advanced troubleshooting
- functional understanding of advanced G-code and M-code
- functional understanding of basic 3-axis CNC programming in MasterCAM
- assist in proving out new CNC programs
- monitor speeds & feeds (make suggestions to CNC programmer as necessary)
- make basic (soft jaws, etc.) and advanced fixtures
- functional understanding of dynamic work offsets, CNC programming in G-code and M-code
- functional understanding of macros
- minimum of 10 yrs as a CNC Machinist using CNC lathes in a production environment
- extensive experience setting up lathes and turning at least one of the following materials is a requirement:
- controlled thermal expansion alloys: Alloy 42, Kovar, Invar
- nickel based alloys: Inconel, Monel
- titanium
- Education: high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident due to ITAR regulations
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Education: trade school (e.g. NTMA, The Fab School, etc.), community college Machining class, CNC programming class
- Experience in defense, aerospace, or regulated manufacturing
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems
