We’re hiring a Business Development Manager to join our core team of industry professionals. This is a cross-disciplinary role that blends leadership, salesmanship, technical writing, legal knowledge, negotiating skills, project management and even GIS expertise. You will contribute to the growth of a small, high-performing and growing consulting team while also managing strategic relationships with clients in the renewable energy sector.
The ideal candidate is a resourceful, self-motivated and results-oriented leader who thrives in an independent, dynamic and solution focused environment, has strong technical writing and analytical skills, enjoys working with people, and wants to shape the future of renewable energy development in Canada and abroad.
· Identify and lead new market development activities in Canada, including taking the initiative to manage and expand our existing client portfolios.
· Have expertise and the aptitude to evaluate various sources and types of data for projects including mapping tools such as Google Earth, QGIS, and/or ArcGIS.
· Collaborate with internal and external technical and business teams to manage, track and advance project origination and execution work at various stages of development, as well as communicating timelines and budgets internally and with clients.
· Guide projects through all key stages of the project life-cycle —origination, stakeholder engagement, feasibility studies, layout and technical project planning and design.
· Coordinate with third-party expert consultants in various specialized domains such as legal, environmental, engineering, consultation work, and land use planning.
Team and Client Management & Business Growth
· Cultivate and expand client relationships through personable, optimistic and enthusiastic hands-on engagement and proactive communication.
· Manage relationships with clients and develop strategies to grow client portfolios and secure repeat business and expand current lines of business.
· Monitor market trends, identify new opportunities and support client expansion into new areas of business across Canada and the U.S.
· Potential for the role to directly manage a small, cross-functional development team of technical and commercial experts.
· Align team objectives with business priorities and support growth planning and forecasting.
· 3 to 5 years experience in direct business development and stakeholder management roles.
· The ideal candidate will have direct experience in the renewable energy or infrastructure sectors or otherwise has direct sales experience and potentially has experience with stakeholder management and direct negotiation experience (e.g. exp such as real estate agent or similar).
· Demonstrated success in managing complex and detailed tasks, projects or work portfolios as well as managing and growing client accounts.
· Experience working in a small company, “start-up” environment would be an asset, along with high ownership and pride in your work.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional client-facing presence.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills; capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, and prioritizing work.
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and comfortable producing client-ready high-quality documents and presentations.
· High level of attention to detail, self-motivated to do tasks, and a natural attitude to problem-solve with a hands-on approach will be critical for success in this role.
· Expertise in working with mapping and spatial tools like Google Earth, ArcGIS, and QGIS would be an asset, but is not strictly required for this role.
