Flotech Environmental is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Estimator to support the estimating and preconstruction process for underground utilities and infrastructure projects. This role works closely with Estimators, Project Managers, and Operations to develop accurate cost estimates, assess project risks, and support competitive bid submissions. The Assistant Estimator reports to the Estimator and plays a key role in building budgets, maintaining cost data, and ensuring estimates align with field conditions and operational capabilities.
- Assist in preparing cost estimates, budgets, bids, and proposals for utilities/infrastructure maintenance and rehabilitation projects
- Support risk analysis and feasibility reviews for potential projects
- Maintain and update estimating databases, historical costs, and pricing information
- Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to identify scope requirements and risks
- Input and track all opportunities, bids, and proposal outcomes in the project management system
- Assist with job surveys, including site visits when required, to gather field conditions and logistical data
- Support procurement of plans, specifications, and subcontractor pricing
- Request, collect, and organize subcontractor and vendor quotes
- Assist in evaluating subcontractors for experience, compliance, and client requirements (including MWBE when applicable)
- Support cost comparisons and scope alignment for subcontracted work
- Assist in developing final pricing, bid packages, and proposal documentation
- Help coordinate bid bonds, insurance requirements, and submission materials
- Support timely delivery and tracking of bids and proposals
- Assist with reviewing estimated costs versus actual project costs
- Participate in project review and handoff meetings
- Support continuous improvement of estimating accuracy and processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
- 1–3 years of experience in construction or environmental estimating, preconstruction, or project coordination preferred
- Experience with underground utilities, environmental services, or infrastructure projects is a plus
- Experience with Estimating and take-off software a plus
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, contracts, and technical documents
- Strong mathematical skills, including basic algebra and geometry
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; ability to learn estimating and project management software
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments
- Ability to visit job sites as needed
- Up to 10% travel may be required
