As the Engineering Technician (Water), your duties will include:
- Design of Water Distribution Facilities.
- Prepare preliminary layout and detailed drawings from sketches or written data.
- Review the design and perform the inspection of water distribution systems.
- Prepare and evaluate construction tenders and perform layout and minor survey work, inspect, verify, and certify contractor installations and, if necessary, authorize minor changes during construction as needed.
- Analyze final project costs and investigate variances.
- Provide Engineering oversight to commission new watermains including witnessing hydrostatic testing, flushing and disinfection requirements, and collection of bacteriological samples for lab analysis.
- Conduct a variety of activities to maintain accurate and up-to-date records for the daily operations of the various utilities and to ensure accurate archives are maintained for future reference.
- Respond to customer queries or complaints and employ tact and diplomacy to resolve issues.
- Minimum of a post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology; or equivalent which is a combination of relevant education and related experience normally acquired by working in a civil engineering, municipal or utility workplace for a minimum of 5 years.
- Sound working knowledge of engineering principles related to Water Distribution Systems.
- Proficient at reading and interpreting civil and electrical drawings.
- AutoCAD and GIS skills.
- Proficient in computerized systems, such as Microsoft Office.
- Strong interpretive and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license.
