A Water/ Wastewater Technician is a skilled professional responsible for performing a wide range of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater distribution systems. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of these vital utilities. The technician’s duties include but are not limited to:
- Replacing Water/Wastewater Mains: Remove and replace damaged or outdated water/Wastewater mains to ensure a reliable distribution system.
- Leak Detection: Utilize specialized equipment and techniques to locate leaks in water/Wastewater mains promptly, minimizing water wastage and preventing system damage.
- Meter Replacement: Replace old or malfunctioning water meters with new and accurate devices to monitor water consumption accurately.
- Pipe Work: Lay, level, align, cut, and fit various types of pipes and tubing according to project specifications.
- Joint Creation: Skillfully create different types of joints, including caulked, threaded, flanged, and compression-type joints, ensuring leak-free connections.
- Valve and Fitting Installation: Connect meters, valves, and fittings within the water/Wastewater system, allowing for control and regulation of flow.
- Hydrant Maintenance: Install, remove, and replace valves and fire hydrants as needed to ensure fire protection and system integrity.
- Equipment Operation: Operate heavy machinery such as backhoes, front-end loaders, dump trucks, or vacuum trucks to excavate and access underground Utilities.
- Tool Utilization: Use a variety of hand and power tools specific to the work, including jackhammers, pipe locators, welding equipment, and cutting tools, to complete tasks effectively and safely.
