Searles Valley Minerals provides customers worldwide with high quality soda ash, sodium sulfate, and boron products from a large saline mineral deposit in California s Mojave Desert. Searles Valley Minerals uses an environmentally friendly solution mining technology to extract mineral rich brines from over 25,000 acres of leased and owned reserves which it processes using proprietary technologies in three manufacturing facilities in Trona, California.
The Water Technician helps maintain the physical properties and service facilities of the Searles Domestic Water Company potable water distribution system within its franchise area. The system is operated under the rules and regulations of the California Public Utilities Commission and the California Water Resources Control Board – Division of Drinking Water, and requires reliable support year-round.
This role is responsible for reading residential and commercial water meters and accurately recording usage. The Water Technician also maintains, repairs, and installs pipes, meters, mains, hydrants, and valves in an industrial setting.
1. Maintain Water Company infrastructure in accordance with P.U.C. and CWRCB regulations including water quality monitoring and sampling.
2. Maintain SVM properties and structures outside plant boundaries.
3. Respond to emergency calls and incidents outside regular working hours to promptly address any water-related emergencies, such as leaks, pipe bursts, or water quality concerns, and coordinate rapid response efforts to ensure uninterrupted water services for customers
4. Manage, monitor, and audit Safety, Health, and Environmental practices to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with Company, Federal and State standards.
5. Commit to a safe work environment by following all workplace safety rules and procedures and proactively identifying and resolving safety hazards and by adhering to SSHE policies, procedures and programs.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1+ years related experience and/or training.
- Ability to obtain Water Distribution Certification – Grade I
- Requires normal or correctable vision, hearing, and manual dexterity.
- Frequently lifts 25 – 50 lbs and occasionally lifts up to 100 lbs.
- Regularly subjected to outdoor weather and loud noise.
- Frequently will work in weather related conditions, such as wet and/or humid, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
- Occasionally will work near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places, around fumes or airborne particles, with toxic or caustic chemicals, and may be subject to vibration.
