As a Wastewater Operator with National Water Infrastructure (NWI), you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of assigned sewage treatment plants.
- Drives a company truck to assigned wastewater treatment plants and lift stations and all their components to ensure proper and efficient operations and reduce malfunctions.
- Adjusts items such as timers, air distribution, sludge and skimmer return flows, and level switches. Inspects fluid conditions and sludge levels; services and cleans; removes trash and debris; maintains bar screen cleaning; repairs possible air leaks and line integrity problems. Safely handles and applies chemicals for water treatment processes.
- Operates and monitors a variety of equipment/machinery including motors, pumps, blowers, valves, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, generators, filters, etc.
- May conduct sampling and testing of wastewater.
- Ensures assigned sites are secure with appropriate signage posted. Cleans and removes vegetation growth on plants when necessary.
- Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment readings, and inspections. Documents plant performance including daily flow and chemical usage.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to wastewater treatment and environmental standards. Follows all safety guidelines and protocols.
- Collaborates with coworkers and supervisors to ensure smooth operations and efficient communication within the treatment plant.
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility, water supply facility or related environment preferred
- Prior experience with mechanical and/or electrical maintenance
- Valid Louisiana Driver’s License with favorable Motor Vehicle Record
- Ability to read and comprehend technical information and written and verbal instructions
- Ability to use hand tools effectively
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations
- Successful results of a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Have the ability to lift 50 pounds
- Physical strength and stamina such as lifting, climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching and operating hand and power tools.
- May be subject to standing and walking for long periods of time
- Visually observe such things as gauges, readings and equipment
- Manual dexterity and coordination
- Ability to withstand exposure to the following conditions without stress: excessive noise, unpleasant odors, chemicals/other environmental substances
- May be exposed to weather conditions, such as extreme hot or cold temperatures, or other potentially hazardous conditions such as near roadway traffic or near animal or wildlife such as snakes, rodents, etc.
