Job Summary

The Vegetation Trimmer - Climber is a skilled field operations role responsible for performing tree trimming and vegetation removal along utility rights-of-way. This position requires expertise in climbing techniques, operating specialized equipment, and working safely near energized power lines. The Vegetation Trimmer - Climber plays a critical role in maintaining clearances for electrical infrastructure, ensuring public safety and system reliability. Candidates must demonstrate strong knowledge of vegetation management practices, adherence to utility safety protocols, and a commitment to teamwork in dynamic outdoor environments.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

- Safeguard employees and the public by establishing safety barriers and maintaining a hazard-free work zone.

- Trim and remove trees by climbing using ladders, lift trucks, climbing lines, and hand-powered saws/pruners.

- Spray stumps using hand equipment to prevent regrowth.

- Cut branches and trunk sections into manageable pieces and lower them safely to the ground.

- Operate woodchippers and other vegetation management equipment safely.

- Maintain and service tools and equipment regularly.

- Assist in training new employees on safety procedures and trimming techniques.

- Work safely near energized power lines and in areas with potential falling limbs.

- Perform minor repairs to customer or public property if damaged during tree trimming operations.

- Be trained and prepared for tree and bucket rescue operations.

- Support vegetation crews with additional manual labor and field duties as needed.

Job Requirements

- High School Diploma or equivalent required.

- Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.

- Must pass drug, alcohol, and background screenings.

- Good hand-eye coordination and ability to repair tools/equipment.

- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work extended hours.

- Ability to work in all weather conditions, including inclement weather.

- Must be able to enter/exit vehicles frequently and wear PPE consistently.

- Understanding of utility industry operations and safety standards.

- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently.

- High level of professionalism, integrity, and punctuality.

- Excellent organization, time management, and decision-making abilities.

- Ability to process and analyze operational data.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.

- Frequent bending, climbing, stooping, standing, and repetitive hand movements.

- Ability to work with hands above head for extended periods.

- Must be able to walk, climb, and work from various heights.

- Must be able to work in uneven and slippery conditions.

- Close visual acuity is required for detailed work and inspections.

Working Conditions

- Outdoor work in all weather conditions year-round.

- Regular travel to various job sites.

- Exposure to noisy environments, mechanical equipment, and potential hazards.

- PPE must be worn at all times.
