Job Description:

Hourly: $15-$17 per hour - 2+ Years Experience Required

Reports to: Operation and Route Supervisor

Summary:

This position assists the collection driver with safely operating a heavy-duty sanitation truck while performing assigned duties. The driver’s helper assists the driver with assuring the driver safely operates while on route. Some of those tasks include backing up, traffic control etc. The driver’s helper will also position and safely empty the containers. The driver’s helper will ensure the customer’s site is free of spillage and left clean. The driver’s helper will ensure the container is left on the curb/end of driveway, not in the street, upright, with the lid closed. This position requires initiative, the ability to exercise independent judgement, anticipating problem areas and providing solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work in accordance with PWS safety policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws.

Immediately report any unsafe actions or situations to the Operation or Route Supervisor.

Safely assists collection drivers who operate trucks on pre-established route to in accordance with company policy and procedures. Collects and dumps garbage, refuse, recyclables, and/or organics into refuse trucks while covering a designated route in a residential, commercial, or industrial zone. Spots the unloading of refuse trucks at the landfill, transfer station, material recovery facility or similar facility.

Adheres to all policies, procedures and other requirements at the Landfill and Transfer Station.

Provides a high level of service through courteous and expeditious customer service in all aspects of refuse operation to the public, and customers. Exhibits a positive attitude towards company, customer, and municipal goals.

Ensures garbage at residences is picked up and transferred properly; pick up may require retrieving containers from customer’s using back door.

Answers questions for customers and directs them to contact Customer Service for additional information.

Performs other tasks as required such as, but not limited to, assisting other routes for completion, attending community events, or delivery of bins and/or carts.

Participates and cooperates in all scheduled training, briefings, and meetings as required by Route or Operation Supervisor.

Performs a variety of manual duties in the clean-up of scattered or spilled refuse, recyclables and/or organics; positions for emptying small to large trash bins using truck hydraulics.
