Job Title: Trainer (Wood)

Position Overview: The Trainer is responsible for providing training and guidance to inspection personnel to ensure adherence to quality standards, safety regulations, and procedural requirements. This role involves a combination of conducting inspections, developing training materials, and facilitating training sessions both in the classroom and in the field to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of inspection teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct Inspections:

- Perform routine inspections of poles, equipment, facilities, or processes to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.

- Document inspection findings accurately and thoroughly, including any deviations from standards or procedures.

- Identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for corrective actions.


Develop Training Materials:

- Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop comprehensive training materials covering inspection procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards.

- Create presentations, manuals, and other educational resources to support training initiatives.

- Update training materials as needed to reflect changes in regulations or procedures.


Facilitate Training Sessions:

- Plan and organize training sessions for inspection personnel, both in classroom settings and hands-on practical exercises.

- Deliver engaging and informative training sessions that effectively communicate key concepts and procedures.

- Evaluate trainee performance and provide constructive feedback to support skill development.


Provide Mentorship and Support:

- Serve as a mentor to new inspectors, providing guidance and support as they acclimate to their roles.

- Offer ongoing assistance to inspection teams, answering questions and addressing concerns related to inspection procedures or regulations.

- Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the department.



Stay Current on Regulations and Best Practices:

- Stay informed about changes in industry regulations, standards, and best practices related to inspection activities.

- Update training materials and procedures to reflect the latest requirements and advancements in the field.

- Attend workshops, trainings, and other professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.


Qualifications and Requirements:

- Previous experience in inspection work, preferably in a regulated industry such as manufacturing or construction

- Strong understanding of quality management principles, safety regulations, and inspection procedures.

- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.

- Demonstrated ability to develop training materials and facilitate engaging training sessions.

- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills for conducting inspections and analyzing data.

- Certification or licensure in relevant inspection techniques or methodologies may be preferred.

- Ability to travel up to 90%


Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in developing and implementing training programs for inspection personnel.

- Familiarity with instructional design principles and adult learning theories.

- Proficiency in using technology and multimedia tools for creating interactive training materials.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.


Physical Requirements:

- Ability to carry and handle tools and equipment used for inspections, which can be heavy and bulky.

- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.

- Ability to bend, stoop, and crouch to inspect poles from various angles and positions.

- Precision in using inspection tools and performing tasks that require detailed manual work.

- Skill in using hand and power tools necessary for inspecting and testing wood poles.

- Near and Distance Vision: Sharp eyesight to detect small defects, cracks, or other issues on poles and read inspection data clearly.

- Adequate hearing to listen to instructions, communicate with team members, and detect auditory signals that may indicate issues during inspections.

- Excellent balance to climb and work in various terrain without falling.

- Capability to walk long distances and stand for extended periods while conducting inspections.

- Ability to navigate through various types of terrain, including rough, uneven, or steep areas.

- Sustaining energy levels to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.

- Ability to manage fatigue and remain alert during long inspection tasks.

- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.

- Comfort with working outdoors, often in remote or isolated areas.


Mental & Cognitive Requirements:

- In-depth understanding of wood pole structures, common defects, and inspection techniques.

- Familiarity with safety standards, regulations, and best practices related to pole inspection.

- Ability to effectively communicate complex information in a clear and understandable manner.

- Patience and adaptability to accommodate different learning styles and paces.

- Quick thinking to identify and address issues that may arise during inspections or training sessions.

- Analytical skills to assess pole conditions and recommend appropriate actions.

- Thoroughness in conducting inspections and documenting findings accurately.

- Vigilance in ensuring that trainees adhere to safety protocols and inspection standards.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with trainees, colleagues, and supervisors.

- Leadership abilities to motivate and guide trainees through the learning process.

- Constant awareness of safety hazards and the ability to enforce safety procedures rigorously.

- Ability to remain calm and composed in emergency situations and guide others to safety.

- Flexibility to adjust teaching methods based on the trainees' needs and feedback.

- Openness to continuous learning and updating knowledge on new inspection technologies and methodologies.


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Pay Range: $29-31.00
