Position Summary

The Tool Repair Tech I serves to support the Small Tool Repair Technician II in provisioning, troubleshooting, and managing the Customer Delivery, Transmission compliance tool schedules and other business unit periodic inspection requests. This includes Inspecting, Cleaning, Repairing and Testing Compliance Tools in accordance with corporate guidelines per OSHA, ASTM and ASME standards. This position will also coordinate with field supervisor and schedule compliance tool shipments to ensure internal customer live line tools are in compliance.

The Tool Repair Tech II (Maintenance Mechanic) is responsible for provisioning, troubleshooting, and managing Distribution and Transmission compliance tool schedules. This includes inspecting, cleaning, repairing, and testing compliance tools in accordance with corporate guidelines, OSHA, ASTM, and ASME standards. This position coordinates with supervision to schedule compliance tool shipments ensuring field live line tools remain in compliance. Technician will be required to receive certification from manufacturer to service and repair tools internally on behalf of the manufacturer and manage parts inventory.


Responsibilities

- Repairing Specialty Tools - Battery, Hydraulic, Gas Powered & Electrical Tools

- Unpack, sort, separate, clean, visually inspect, repair, electrically test, stamp, package, and ship various compliance tool types primarily in support of the tool cascade program

- Inspect, clean, repair, and test compliance tools in accordance with corporate guidelines, OSHA, ASTM, and ASME standards

- Manage and coordinate compliance tool schedule deliveries to ensure field tools are in compliance

- Operate equipment in the Tool Repair Shop including electronic and manual testing equipment

- Safely operate a forklift for loading and unloading trucks

- Document work, labeling, and updating customer data using computer applications

- Assist walk-in customers and support other Tool Services activities


Basic/Required Qualifications

Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relative experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.


Tool Repair Tech I

- High School/GED AND one (1) years minimum required related experience


Tool Repair Tech II

- High School/GED AND two (2) years minimum required related experience


Desired Qualifications

- Associates degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering

- Prior basic knowledge of power distribution

- Prior knowledge of power tools

- Self-motivated, hard-worker, with desire to learn in a fast pace setting

- Flexible and ready to perform multiple duties depending on priority


Working Conditions

- Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility

- First shift; Monday-Thursday 6:00am-3:30pm, Friday 7:00am-11:00am

- Repair Shop environment – concrete floor walking on asphalt, open touch down space

- Occasional work extended shifts in support of outage activities; some call-out required and must be available to support other Tool Services activities assisting walk-in customers and Tool Repair Tech II’s

- Frequent standing, walking, stooping and bending (position will require raising and transporting up to 50 lbs., occasionally coiled and loose items; must be able to lift 50+ pounds), with hands in water frequently

- Frequent pushing and pulling using physical force and repetitive cleaning motion


Specific Requirements

- Valid Driver's License

- Ability to obtain DOT Certification (Health Card) for driving Duke DOT equipment under 26,000 lbs. or below

- Ability to operate forklift for loading/unloading trucks

- Competent in inspecting and repairing a range of tool categories in addition to managing tool schedule deliveries

- Proficiency with basic computer applications including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, and internal web-based materials ordering and expense system applications

- Satisfactory safety record and adherence to company safe work practice

- Basic repair knowledge and/or experience with troubleshooting skills

- Understanding of Voltage, Resistance, and Current principles

- Mechanical skills to make, test, and tag assemblies of critical personal protective equipment

- Ability to follow direction around meeting work standards and tool specifications that are consistent and reliable

- Good communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills to clearly articulate business interaction with internal customers, factory representatives, and co-workers

- Ability to report to work on time and meet deadlines

- Ability to prioritize and perform multiple duties depending on priority

- Ability to handle work responsibilities with minimum supervision while working as part of a team

- Desire to learn in a fast-paced setting and be respectful to others

- Ability to lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs., occasionally coiled and loose items

- Ability to lift 50+ pounds with hands in water frequently

- Frequent standing, walking, stooping, and bending
