Under limited supervision, administers a comprehensive organizational safety and health program to ensure safe work practices are known and followed and unsafe conditions and behaviors are mitigated. Plans and organizes their daily work, determines priorities, and provides useful analysis of safety and health related information and data for continual improvement purposes. Works with management in the formulation of safety and health programs, policies, and procedures. Routinely handles sensitive and confidential documents, including substance abuse testing information, and acts in a confidential capacity to assist or aid management. Collaboration with all levels of JEA employees is required to deliver desired outcomes and results. The work may be routine and guided by policies and/or procedures that are applied to a variety of situations that require interpretation, judgment, and resolution of more complex problems. The work will require discretion and protection of personal and confidential information.
· Conduct safety observations and advise employees, contractors, and management on policies, procedures, and safe work practices related to safety and health matters.
· Gather and study safety and health related data to identify trends and opportunities for continual improvement. Present findings and recommendations to management and lead continual improvement initiatives.
· Assist with and participate in accident investigations, injury analysis, etc. upon request.
· Respond to and document inquiries from employees, managers and/or team members regarding safety and health matters to include, but not limited to, safety policies, safety recognition programs, personal protective equipment voucher systems, Passport to Safety, and S.A.F.E. Rep program.
· Plan, develop, and facilitate a variety of training products designed to promote safety, health, and wellbeing of JEA employees.
· Provide guidance to employees and management on safety and health related matters to include, but not limited to, regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, processes, systems, and workers’ compensation and auto liability data and information.
· Support management with workers’ compensation and auto liability claims.
· Assist with the research and development of bids and the administering of contracts.
· Respond to inquiries from the Safety Hotline on a rotating basis.
· Compile and analyze a variety of reports, correspondence, spreadsheets, graphs, and statistical data and recommends appropriate action.
· Operate standard office equipment and demonstrate proficiency in using required software, including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
· Design, compile, and measure the effectiveness of process measures for assigned areas.
A five (5) year combination of education and/or experience in occupational safety, training, or similar environment. Two (2) years of field safety experience conducting work site assessments is required. A bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or related field is preferred.
A valid driver’s license is required prior to employment and must be maintained during employment in this classification.
