Technical Trainer
The Technical Trainer is responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive training programs on low, medium, and high-voltage electrical practices. This role ensures that company employees and apprentices acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant codes and standards. The Technical Trainer will collaborate with project managers, field supervisors, safety team, and other stakeholders to maintain a culture of safety, excellence, and professional growth within the organization.
Core Responsibilities:
Training Program Development & Implementation:
•Develop, design, and implement training programs and curricula for low, medium, and high-voltage electrical practices, including but not limited to:
+ Installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems
+ Safety protocols for working with various voltage levels
+ Compliance with OSHA, National Electric Code (NEC), and other industry standards
•Provide ongoing mentorship to union craft labor employees to ensure the continuous improvement of technical skills.
•Conduct classroom-based and hands-on training sessions at company facilities or job sites.
•Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and documentation for all employees.
•Manage information, resources, and schedules efficiently.
•Evaluate training outcomes through assessments, exams, and feedback, refining programs as needed.
•Coordinate with third-party training vendors, NECA, IBEW, NELCAF and other industry partners to evaluate, schedule and get compensated as appropriate.
Field Engagement & Safety Support:
•Conduct needs assessments to identify skill gaps and develop targeted training solutions.
•Partner with the Safety Team to develop & reinforce a strong safety culture as well as support training.
•Promote the use of new tools, technology, and methods that enhance productivity, safety, and quality.
•Conduct field visits regularly, maintaining a relationship with the crews and identifying training & development needs.
•Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and audits as a subject matter expert.
Workforce Development & Career Progression:
•Provide mentoring and guidance to employees.
•Provide insight and strategies while partnering with Human Resources to attract, retain, and upskill talent within the workforce.
•Stay updated on advancements in electrical technology, safety regulations, and industry best practices to incorporate into training materials.
Qualifications:
•Must be a journeyman in good standing of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).
•Minimum of 10 years of experience and success in the electrical construction industry.
•Extensive hands-on experience with low, medium, and high-voltage electrical systems.
•Proven expertise in electrical codes, safety practices, and regulatory compliance.
•Prior teaching, training, or mentorship experience is highly preferred.
•Clear and effective communication, organization, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
•Ability to adapt teaching methods to various skill levels and learning styles.
•Proficiency in using training aids, tools, and technology to enhance learning.
•Specifically: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•Flexible schedule to accommodate training needs.
Additional Requirements:
•Willingness to travel to job sites as required.
•Ability to lift and carry training equipment and materials.

Compensation:
The minimum and maximum annual salary that O'Connell Electric Company, Inc. believes in good faith to be accurate for this position at the time of this posting is between $95,000 to $115,000 annually. It is important to O'Connell Electric that potential candidates for this position understand that compensation depends on numerous factors including the geographic location where the role will be performed, skills required, experience, complexity, travel, and market rate.
