We are seeking a permanent Technical Assistant to join our Engineering Standards & Support Department in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Responsibilities:
•Design, implement and maintain attribute, data structures and metadata of geospatial information used in the Manitoba Hydro
GIS environments.
•Establish and maintain scripts and techniques for the loading of geospatial data into the ESRI and eGIS geospatial databases.
•Collaborate with internal and external customers on the availability of new sources of geospatial information and ensure data
sets are migrated to the geospatial data warehouse and /or made available to GIS users as required.
•Responsible for the development and implementation of metadata strategies for the creators of geospatial information.
•Provide expertise in the creation of 3D, vector and raster, representations of data from a variety of sources.
•Gather and implement requirements for the creation of geospatial datasets along with processes for keeping datasets up to
date in the Manitoba Hydro GIS environments.
•Provide data integration, analysis, training and consulting services in GIS across the corporation as required.
•Establish and perform quality control audits for the acceptance of geospatial data from internal and external sources to ensure
conformance to Manitoba Hydro standards and assist in the resolution of deficiencies.
Qualifications:
•A two year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology specializing in geomatics and geographic information systems from an
institute of recognized standing plus a minimum of three years directly related experience. An advanced diploma in
Geographic Information Systems Technology from an institute of recognized standing would be an asset.
•Demonstrated advanced experience with the ESRI ArcGIS environment and knowledge of the Smallworld GIS environment.
•Demonstrated ability at an advanced level to use data manipulation tools and software products such as Feature Manipulation
Engine, SQL and python scripting.
•Demonstrated experience working with and developing ArcGIS Survey123 and Web applications.
•Demonstrated experience in high end cartographic mapping using ArcGIS products.
•Thorough knowledge of coordinate systems and the systems of survey in Manitoba.
•Experience in implementing metadata strategies and the creation using entry and query tools.
•Experience in the use of a complete line of PC software products from vendors such as Autodesk, Microsoft, including SQL
server.
•Experience in the creation, manipulation and visualization of 3D datasets from Lidar and elevation-based datasets.
•An understanding of the components, structure and use of all map datasets such as topographic, cadastral, orthoimage, and
remote sensing.
•Possess a valid Manitoba Driver's Licence.

Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $34.80-$48.16 Hourly,
$66,691.04-$92,279.98 Annually.
