Surface Heavy Diesel Mobile Maintenance Mechanic

As our Surface Mobile Maintenance Mechanic, you will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mobile and heavy equipment used in an underground mining environment. This includes drills, bolters, haul trucks, graders, dozers, tractors, light vehicles, and more. You'll begin every task with a focus on safety-inspecting your workplace, tools, and equipment before the job starts. Success in this role requires experience in equipment lubrication, field repair, and preventative maintenance of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical components. Every day you'll work on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska, where independence and strong problem-solving skills are essential..

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing over 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. - Training First: All new hires receive MSHA training during the first four days on the job, plus department-specific training covering job responsibilities and safety.

- Maintenance and Repair: Apply your mechanical aptitude to maintain, inspect, and repair surface and underground mobile equipment.

- Shift Schedule: Work in a mining camp environment. For example, our electrical team works 14 days on (12.5-hour shifts), followed by 14 days off.

- Welding and Fabrication: Assist with various welding and fabrication tasks, with the ability to weld independently when directed.

- Daily Inspections: Conduct work area and equipment inspections before each shift, then prioritize tasks independently.

- Equipment Management: Perform data input for inventory and cost control, complete maintenance logs, and test equipment repairs.

- Safety Commitment: Follow all safety protocols, company policies, and procedures. Maintain compliance with attendance, HR, and environmental policies.

- Teamwork: Communicate and collaborate effectively with your team. You'll be part of a reliable crew that has your back.
