The Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for interfacing with suppliers, developing procurement strategies, and ensuring the quality and compliance of subcontracted parts and assemblies.
- Serve as the primary technical interface with suppliers for the fabrication of subcontracted parts and assemblies
- Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing Engineers and Quality to analyze new requirements
- Perform on-site supplier quality audits/assessments
- Maintain approved supplier list and supporting evaluations
- Perform deep dives to analyze supplier issues/problems, risks and facilitate containment, implementation of corrective and preventative actions, and development of lessons learned
- Verify supplier containment is taken immediately upon discovery of a quality concern
- Review supplier manufacturing processes and collaborate with suppliers on process improvements, capabilities, and value enhancement opportunities
- Analyze and improve supplier processes for bottlenecks and throughput to identify any constraints on production capacity
- Improve quality, cost, delivery, and capacity metrics across the supply chain.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; or equivalent relevant work experience.
- 3+ years of experience in an engineering, supply chain or quality control roles- Broad knowledge of manufacturing
- Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar training/experience
- Experience with capacity modelling, value stream or process flow mapping
- Strong analytical thinking, experience with Pareto analysis, root cause, and corrective actions
- Ability to think outside the box and suggest / implement continuous improvement ideas
- Hands on experience with sheet metal manufacturing, welding, and painting techniques, processes and equipment
- Excellent communication skills – ability to articulate technical problems to non subject matter experts
- Ability to interpret design, contract and drawing specifications
- Excellent attention to detail and task ownership
