Station Engineer - Nursery, TX / Salary Grade 13

Performs engineering, design, assessment and planning of all manner of distribution and transmission substation projects, repairs and maintenance.

Working Conditions

General office. May frequently be required to walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand for long periods. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to reach, bend, and use 2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.

Essential Functions

- Provides support to System Operations, Technical Services, and Transmission regarding questionable operations, equipment failures, troubleshooting and emergency responses.

- Develops scopes of work and contracts for construction contractors, contract engineers and suppliers.

- Determines and specifies all materials to be used in transmission and distribution substation construction.

- Specifies, negotiates, and coordinates the procurement of major owner-furnished materials and supplies.

- Calculates all manner of clearances, ratings, design limits, and any other equipment characteristic in the design and engineering of stations in compliance with good utility practice, company practices, applicable IEEE and ANSI guides, NESC and Texas Utility Code.

- Supports the efforts and training of engineering assistants and new hires.

- Develops, maintains, and tests the short circuit database and performs all manners of voltage and current studies including flicker and voltage drop analysis.

- Manages the efforts of contracted construction, engineering and surveying services.

- Generates cost estimates for alternative improvement plans and recommends best options to management.

- Designs and engineers all aspects of stations in compliance with all safety and related industry regulations and guidelines.

- Approves design, construction and as-built drawings generated by contract engineering firms and by in-house engineering assistants.

- Coordinates with Member cooperatives, neighboring transmission owners, ERCOT and other departments to complete station projects.

- Monitors station and line loadings and schedules necessary equipment upgrades, replacements and performs cost benefit analyses.

- Provides protective relay settings and evaluates relay coordination with neighboring transmission service providers and Member cooperatives.

- Engineers, designs, details and specifies drilled pier foundations, slabs and grounding plans.

- Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.

Experience

5+ years’ experience in lieu of degree

License & Certification

Valid Texas Driver License
