Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic (J4) for a contract position in Norfolk, VA. The ideal candidate must be local, DBIDS eligible, and have prior experience in marine or shipyard environments. This role involves fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance of sheet metal components on naval and commercial vessels.

Key Responsibilities:

Layout, fabricate, and install sheet metal parts for ship structures and systems.

Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.

Use various tools including shears, brakes, rollers, and hand tools.

Fit and weld sheet metal components where necessary.

Inspect and test installations to ensure quality and compliance.

Adhere to safety and environmental regulations at all times.

Requirements:

Proven experience as a Sheet Metal Mechanic, preferably in marine or shipyard environments.

Must be classified as a J4 level mechanic or equivalent.

DBIDS eligible (must pass background check for base access).

Familiarity with NAVSEA standards and shipboard work.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Must be able to work in confined spaces and at heights as needed.

Local to Norfolk, VA area (no per diem or relocation offered).

Preferred Qualifications:

OSHA 10/30 Certification.

Experience with HVAC systems or ventilation on ships.

Ability to read and understand complex ship schematics.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $25.00 - $29.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
