The Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for providing in-house legal support to the Hope Utilities, Inc. family of companies (“Hope”) as part of the Hope Legal Team.

- Assist the Deputy General Counsel and General Counsel in representing the Company on all manner of legal matters

- Support the Hope Business Development team in drafting and reviewing commercial documents

- Draft, review, update vendor and other contracts and support the Hope Supply Chain team

- Assist in merger and acquisition activities and relevant transactions.

- Support regulatory filings

- Conduct legal research

Supervisory Responsibilities

The team member in this role will:

- Serve as an Individual Contributor with minimal supervisory responsibilities.

- Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.

Required Skills & Abilities

- Be a member of a state bar in good standing and able to practice in-house in WV

- Ability to strictly maintain confidentiality and be trusted with sensitive information

- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- Excellent legal research and writing skills

- Contract drafting and review

- Transactional experience preferred

- Commercial experience preferred

- Real property / land use law experience preferred

- Understanding of the energy/utility industry preferred

Education & Work Experience

- A JD is required

- A minimum of 8 years of experience in house or at a reputable law firm is required, with utility/energy experience preferred

- WV law license preferred

- This is a full-time exempt salaried position based out of the Morgantown, WV headquarters with travel to Jane Lew and other Hope locations required.

- Remote or Hybrid work may be considered.
