About This Job

Senior Landman

Elk Range Royalties is an active buyer of mineral and royalty interests in the US. We have partnered with NGP Energy, an investment firm with an over 30-year history of investing in the oil and gas business. This provides us with strong financial backing in the form of patient capital with a long-term horizon. The company is currently investing capital out of its third equity commitment from NGP under Elk Range Royalties III.

Elk Range’s success is driven by our team’s diverse range of talents and our ability to work and learn together to achieve even the most challenging of goals. All of Elk Range’s team members seek to live up to our Five Core Values: Accountability, Transparency, Improvement, Trust, and Commitment through all our interactions, both working alongside team members within the company and with mineral and royalty owners we seek to do business with.

This is an opportunity to join an exciting, knowledgeable, and active team with the ability to make an impact on day 1, gain experience and exposure to new skill sets and to grow with the company.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Landman with a specialized focus on mineral and royalty acquisitions to join our team. This role is critical to the execution of high-volume A&D transactions across multiple basins and demands hands-on expertise in title due diligence, deal underwriting, and the closing process.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment managing overlapping deadlines and coordinating with stakeholders such as sellers, attorneys, title brokers, operators, and Elk’s internal management team. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency, but also strong research instincts and the resourcefulness to uncover ownership data, navigate title gaps, and solve problems with limited information. Key responsibilities include PSA negotiation support, title and defect analysis, and the drafting and execution of all associated closing documents. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, a transactional mindset, and the ability to drive mineral deals from evaluation through successful close.

Responsibilities

- Conduct title due diligence for mineral, royalty, and ORRI acquisitions by verifying ownership, interpreting conveyances and heirship chains, and resolving title defects in collaboration with legal and third-party title brokers.

- Apply working knowledge of real property law, regulatory requirements, and basin-specific nuances to ensure acquisitions are executed in compliance with applicable state laws. Maintain familiarity with jurisdictional differences across key oil and gas states to support accurate title interpretation, defect resolution, and PSA drafting.

- Prepare title summaries, ownership reports, and curative documentation to support acquisition decisions and ensure clean title prior to closing.

- Draft, review, and revise letters of intent, purchase and sale agreements, deeds/assignments, letter agreements, and other legal instruments as needed to facilitate mineral and royalty transactions.

- Gather and synthesize all relevant ownership and transaction data—both pre- and post-due diligence—to draft accurate Closing Statements that reflect the final terms of the PSA. Ensure each statement reconciles asset-level details, ownership adjustments, and negotiated terms to facilitate clear, auditable closings.

- Provide regular status updates to internal stakeholders and coordinate with external parties to ensure seamless execution of the A&D lifecycle.

- Maintain accurate records of all acquired interests within internal land systems and ensure smooth transition into asset management workflows.

- Advise division order and title analyst personnel regarding title matters including the preparation of all curative items needed for the interests to be placed in pay status with the appropriate operators.

- Oversee contract land personnel and all costs associated therewith to ensure alignment with budget and project requirements.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

- Bachelor’s or law degree from an accredited university (Energy Management, Land, or Business disciplines preferred).

- 6-10 years of relevant experience in a similar minerals and royalties-focused Land role, ideally with exposure to A&D transactions across multiple basins.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions), QGIS, and Spotfire.

- Strong working knowledge of mineral title, curative processes, and PSA/deed drafting.

- Highly resourceful and self-directed; able to solve problems and make decisions independently.

- Effective negotiation, advocacy, and influencing skills.

- Strong critical thinking skills; ability to exercise sound business judgment

- Detail-oriented and capable of producing results in time-constrained situations.

- Adaptable to changing business needs and requests.

- Acquisitions and divestitures experience.

- Experience in unconventional/conventional resource plays.

- AAPL Certified Professional Landman (CPL) certification.

Required Qualifications:

- Must reside in the DFW area and work in-person at our Dallas office.

- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Land Management, Energy Management, Business Administration, Law, or a related field.

- Minimum 6 years of Land experience, with a demonstrated focus on minerals and royalties.

- Experience with ArcGIS/QGIS mapping software and digital land systems.

- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (lookup/indexing, pivot tables, etc.)

- Demonstrated expertise in mineral title analysis, curative, and closing transactions across multiple basins.

- Proficiency in drafting PSAs, deeds, assignments, and closing statements.

- Strong expertise in negotiating and executing oil and gas leases, pooling agreements, unitization agreements, and surface use agreements.

- Familiarity with real property law and regulatory environments across Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Colorado, Utah, Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

- Excellent teamwork, communication, and negotiation skills.

- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

- Must pass a pre-employment background check.

- Must provide a list of professional references.

Travel Requirements:

- Potential 5% - 10% travel required for meetings, training events, and transaction-related business needs.

Benefits

- Competitive base salary and bonus opportunities

- Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance

- SEP IRA Plan with 10% company contribution

- Unlimited PTO and Flex Scheduling with tenure

- 14+ Paid Holidays

- Newly renovated office location in the Dallas Design District with in-office gym

- Company-provided lunch 2-3 times a week

- Regular offsite team building events

- Sponsored networking and educational events
