About the Role

At Niron, safety is foundational to how we operate. The Senior EHS Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Niron's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace. This role plays a key part in maintaining regulatory compliance and embedding a strong safety culture as the organization scales.

What you'll do:

Program & Project Leadership

- Lead cross-functional EHS program rollouts end-to-end—from concept and requirements through launch, adoption, and sustainment

- Define scope, deliverables, owners, and success measures; ensure the rollout is measurable and doesn't die after go-live

- Align stakeholders across Operations, Engineering, HR, and Leadership; drive decisions, remove barriers, and maintain accountability

- Build and manage execution plans (milestones, dependencies, resources); provide clear status, risks, and next steps

- Develop deployment and training plans that fit production realities (shift coverage, contractor interfaces, communication timing)

- Track progress and issues; escalate when needed and drive timely closure of open items

- Validate effectiveness post-launch through metrics, audits/field verification, and feedback; adjust to improve durability

- Lead major initiatives such as:

- Site-wide EHS program deployments and refreshes

- Compliance system/workflow implementations (software, tools, reporting)

- Corrective action management process improvements (CAPA rigor, governance, follow-up)

- Permitting/compliance readiness initiatives and recordkeeping upgrades

- EHS integration for capital projects, equipment installs, and operational changes

- Targeted risk reduction campaigns tied to leading indicators and recurring site hazards

Regulatory Compliance

- Own day-to-day EHS compliance execution: translate requirements into practical site procedures, checklists, and routines that work on the floor

- Maintain readiness for permits, licenses, and certifications by managing site requirements and keeping documentation audit-ready

- Track regulatory updates and drive timely updates to site policies, training content, signage/labels, and operating practices—ensuring changes stick in the field

Risk Assessment and Mitigation

- Perform routine EHS inspections, audits, and hazard assessments in production and support areas; document findings and drive corrective actions to verified closure

- Pressure-test controls in the real environment (PPE, engineering controls, administrative controls): verify effectiveness, identify gaps, and escalate higher-order fixes when needed

- Partner with R&D, Engineering, and Operations to build safer processes and equipment—from design reviews through installation/start-up support (including change implementation support as applicable)

- Support continued buildout of the Emergency Response Team (ERT): help define roles, readiness expectations, and drill/training cadence; coordinate improvements based on lessons learned

- Maintain and improve the site Emergency Action Plan (EAP): validate scenarios, procedures, and communications through drills/tabletops; close gaps identified during exercises

Training and Education

- Assist in developing and delivering practical, operator-relevant training (e.g., onboarding, SDS/HazCom, LOTO, hot work, emergency procedures), using field examples and site-specific scenarios

- Coach leaders and teams on consistent execution: safe work practices, inspection ownership, required training completion, and closing the loop on findings

Incident Investigation and Corrective Actions

- Run the site reporting workflow for incidents, near misses, hazard observations, and improvement ideas—triage, categorize, assign owners, and keep actions moving

- Lead and/or support investigations using structured methods (e.g., 5-Why, causal factor analysis); focus on system fixes, not blame

- Build strong CAPAs: define corrective/preventive actions, set due dates, track to closure, and verify effectiveness to prevent repeat events

- Maintain required incident records and reporting (including OSHA recordkeeping support as applicable) and communicate trends and "what changed" learnings back to the organization

Preferred Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field

- Master's degree preferred (e.g., EHS, IH, Environmental Engineering, Safety, or similar)

- Minimum 7+ years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in high-volume manufacturing and/or chemical processing

- Strong working knowledge of applicable EHS requirements (OSHA, NFPA, EPS as relevant to site operations)

- Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence effectively across all levels of the organization

- Proficient in Microsoft Office; comfort with EHS systems or data tools a plus

- Project management required: lead large-scale, cross-functional EHS rollouts through sustainment (scope, timeline, stakeholder management, adoption)

- Familiarity with AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) for productivity and drafting while maintaining confidentiality and data-control expectations

- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

- Relevant certifications preferred: ASP/CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent

Our pay and benefits:

- Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on education, experience and skills

- Equity position in Niron via stock option grant

- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance

- Mental healthcare benefits

- 401k plan with 6% company match

- Paid time off to take time for what you need in life

- Experience in a fun, high-performing, manufacturing environment set to change the world
