The Senior Business Development Manager is responsible for driving strategic client growth in the Solar and BESS O&M sector across North America. This role focuses on identifying and cultivating new business opportunities, building strong relationships with key stakeholders, and managing the full sales lifecycle—from initial contact through contract execution and operational handoff.
Reporting to the Director of Business Development, this individual will act as a trusted advisor to prospective clients, representing Virtus with professionalism and industry insight. The ideal candidate brings deep industry experience, strong commercial acumen, and a results-driven approach to sales and partnership development.
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new O&M opportunities within the utility-scale solar and BESS markets.
- Build and maintain relationships with developers, asset owners, EPCs, and IPPs.
- Serve as the primary client liaison throughout the sales process—conducting discovery meetings, presenting Virtus’s value proposition, and customizing solutions to meet client needs.
- Manage sales outreach using personal networks, industry databases, and market intelligence tools.
- Lead proposal development and submission in coordination with estimating, contracts, and technical teams.
- Align with internal stakeholders to ensure scope, pricing, and value positioning are accurate and competitive.
- Negotiate key commercial terms with prospective clients, maintaining alignment with Virtus’s business objectives.
- Support final contract execution and ensure a clean handoff to operations and project delivery teams.
- Conduct ongoing market research to stay informed of industry trends, competitor strategies, and emerging opportunities.
- Represent Virtus at trade shows, conferences, and client meetings, both virtually and in person.
- Maintain accurate opportunity tracking and forecasting within the company CRM system.
- Support onboarding of awarded projects to ensure alignment between client expectations and operational readiness.
- Foster long-term client relationships to enable contract renewals, portfolio expansions, and referral growth.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather feedback, improve services, and identify upsell opportunities.- Minimum of 6+ years of experience in the solar or renewable energy sector, preferably with a focus on O&M, storage, or EPC services.
- Proven track record of success in B2B sales, proposal development, and contract negotiation.
- Strong understanding of utility-scale solar and BESS operations, lifecycle services, and technical terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex sales cycles with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot or Salesforce), and proposal management tools.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time for client meetings, industry events, and site visits.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field required.
- Master’s degree (MBA or related) is a plus.
