Scrap Metal Worker

Job Overview

Come to work for a great company specializing in scrap iron and metal products to work in the scrap yard processing scrap metal and assisting customers. If you are a hands-on person who enjoys working outside, this is the job for you!

Duties

- Provide excellent customer service and assist customers in unloading their vehicles and trailers by hand or with equipment.

- Sort metal by type and store them in appropriate locations in the yard.

- Prepare metals for various production processes through balers and shears.

- You’ll be trained in steel processing machinery and equipment such as forklifts, telehandler, wire stripper, shear, torch and plasma cutters.

- Sweeping, shoveling, blowing and general clean-up of any area and/or equipment throughout the yard.

- Use a scale to weigh items and complete a ticket for customers as needed.

- Preparing autos for processing, such as trash removal, removing and disposing of designated parts, etc.

- Fluid removal and reclaiming.

Skills

- Must be 18 years of age or older

- Able to work outside in all weather conditions for extensive periods

- Working knowledge of tools, common hand tool, and devices

- Good communication skills

- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy material if needed

- Able to stand and walk the entire shift

- Able to work with others or by yourself with little to no supervision

- Ability to withstand loud settings

- Receive and following verbal directions

- Able to be on time and have good attendance

- Willing to work overtime as needed

- Ability to perform manual intensive labor

- Ability to work in a fast-paced, non-stop environment while providing excellent customer service

- Ability to adapt to frequent changes of priority and complete job tasks safely and effectively without constant supervision

- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and regulations

- Previous customer experience helpful

- Basic knowledge of scrap material helpful

- Forklift experience preferred

Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
